You get what you pay for. The rooms are small, basic, no light fixtures, dull lighting. Literally you get a bed and towel. That's it. If you like uncomfortable beds, hard and lumpy mattresses, loud howling winds coming through a bent window frame then this is your place. Breakfast is 3 cold pancakes, tea or coffee and 4 slices of fruit. No protein.|We were booked for 2 nights, but neither of us slept at all. We didn't stay the second night, because we were anxious to get away from this unpleasant situation. The facility staff was much more concerned with ensuring we paid for the two nights rather than why we were leaving, blaming us for not asking for a room change. Life experience tells me if there are that many issues, a room change is futile and not worth the effort. I've stayed in far better backpacker hostels around the world, so I cannot recommend this accommodation to any budget traveller or otherwise. I'm a backcountry camper and sleep well on a thermarest or air mattress and I wish that I'd had that with me to use. We found a far superior place just down the road for not much more money. Save yourself a wasted nights sleep and a few bucks and stay somewhere else. There's plenty to chose from in St Elena...
Read moreBooked this place through air b&b - a double private room with ensuite. The room was really nice, spacious and actually had a double and single bed. We overlooked the forest and also the road but there were nice views both sides. The bathroom was clean and had a good shower with hot water. Wifi was in the room and was a good speed. There was no air con or fan but the room wasn't too stuffy and the Windows could open which let in some air. |Location is at the top of the hill past the bus station and about a 5-10 min walk into town. We didn't mind this and was fine! We also walked into the monteverde national park one day and that took about 1hr 15mjns and was a nice walk. There is an ice cream factory half way which is a nice break and delicious ice cream! |The host was really nice - although speaks 0 English! Her son speaks English and is around sometimes though.|Breakfast is fab and changes day to day - cereal, homemade juice, coffee, toast, eggs or pancakes. |You could book tours through the b&b which we did for a night trek! ||All in all, would...

I recently had a horrifying experience at maris bed and breakfast. From the moment I entered the room, it was clear that this place is infested with bugs. They were crawling on the walls, floors, and even in the sheets. It was absolutely disgusting.
When I brought this to the attention of the staff, they laughed and dismissed my concerns. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable. If that wasn't bad enough, there were also yellow stains all over the sheets, which made it impossible to sleep comfortably.
The bugs have now spread to my personal items and even to my skin. I'm not sure what kind of bugs they are, but finding a nest in the corners of the room is a clear sign that this hotel does not care about cleanliness or the wellbeing of its guests.
I strongly advise anyone considering staying at this hotel to think twice. This place should not be operating in such appalling conditions. If you value your health and safety, stay away...
