TripAdvisor tells me I've written 200 reviews, and I admit that sounds about right. In all of them, I've tried to be fair to future readers, making certain to mention any potential drawbacks to a place one might stay at. I don't hand out 5-Star reviews for just adequate lodging -- I take into consideration the location, price, amenities, and staff; and, if there is something less than stellar from any of these, I won't give a 5. This is one of the few places for which I had NO qualms about doing so. You will NOT get a better value in Dubrovnik than this place!||Let's get the minor "drawbacks" of S&L out of the way:|1) It's uphill from the docks, and not near Old City. However, manager Ante will pick you up when you arrive at the docks or bus station, the former can be reached in a fifteen minute downhill walk, and the latter is a bus ride away.|2) The kitchen and eating area is shared. But it's a complete kitchen, meaning you can prepare as fancy a meal as you like.|3) The TV is also shared, and it only has six channels, all in Croatian. If lack of TV channels is a problem on your vacation, you probably shouldn't go to Dubrovnik.|4) If the refusal to accept bachelor or bachelorette parties at this place is a problem for you, please understand that the other guests think this is a GREAT idea.||Now the HUGE positives:|1) Ante is the most gracious host I've ever dealt with in 40 years of travel. Give him a call at your planned arrival time, and he'll pick up for free at either the dock or the bus station.|2) The gardens are gloriously beautiful.|3) Sunrise & sunset views from our balcony were some of the, if not THE, best I've ever gotten to see.|Our room had shower, AC, hair dryer, mini-fridge, and free wifi. As noted above, kitchen & TV room are shared, the latter with few channels. A grocery store is (almost) next door, and a few restaurants are within walking distance. To get to Old City, walk down the stairs to the bus stop for lines #3 & #8; this stop for both lines is "Skola Gruz." For tours, ask if "La Luna Pizza" can be used as a pickup stop, as it's less than a five minute walk.||Unless being right at the dock or in Old City is a necessity, you're not going to find a better combination of price, friendly staff,...
Read more10/10! Ante is an excellent host, very welcoming and informative. Our room was a good size, very clean and well decorated. The sea view was also amazing and would highly recommend getting one of these rooms if available. I don't think you would find better value for money anywhere else in Dubrovnik. - Ross||||Words cannot express how amazing Ante's hosting is. Ante has wonderful apartments, ours had an amazing sea view, shared kitchen, shower and toilet. It was super clean, with lovely touches and artwork. Ante and his family are so welcoming, a highlight was our trip with him up to the mountain view point to look out over the city with the sunset. Dubrovnik is a wonderful city, plenty to see and do. Would recommend Ante's apartments to anyone, if you can get a sea view even...
Read moreIf TripAdvisor gave an award for “World’s Best Host” Antii would get it. He picked us up at the ferry, gave us great info about getting around Dubrovnik and using the Dubrovnik card. We had great chats with him and learned a lot. ||S&L looked new; had great outdoor space and a well equipped guest kitchen. |There was actually a (freshly ironed!!) sheet on the bed which was much appreciated since I usually find the bed coverings too warm. ||We liked the location, there were grocery stores and bakeries in close walking distance. There was a pizza/pasta place up the stairs and around the corner that was good and frequented by locals. It was easy to get to old city using the bus. ||So glad we stayed at S&L, many thanks to Antii and his wife for taking such...
