I'll start with the good: Location. It's right on the main street in the Old City. The room was clean. Water pressure was great. The A/C worked. That's about it. The not good: Location. It's very noisy on the main street. Check in/delays- They finally give a code to get a key out of a lock box, then the room key in a second lock box inside. The stairs- very steep, narrow, and winding. Dangerous getting a large suitcase to the upper floors. TV and refrigerator didn't work. Uncomfortable bed. We stayed at the room with turquoise furniture, the toilet is tight to the cabinet and the side wall. Not much room-you better not be too large. We reported the TV and refrigerator not working the first morning via text on whatsapp. They responded someone would be out that afternoon to fix both, asked for permission to enter. Nice. We were notified by text about 4 hours later both were fixed. That night when back at the room, the frig still was broken and the TV did not work. We called the whatsapp phone number, the lady said she would come by to check it out. This was about 9pm so that was impressive. She got it working, there were three remotes, and all had dead batteries. So, the earlier text that all was fix was a complete lie. Noone even went to the room. The refrigerator...
Read moreThis guesthouse is located right in the center of Old Town Dubrovnik, overlooking the main esplanade, Stradun Street. Being in the center, that means you can get up really early in the morning, walk around, & explore all the sights of the old town before the crowd arrives. Also, there is easy access to restaurants, cafes, shops, & everything else you need from here. Because this is a room in the old town, the buildings are pretty much left unchanged, so that means going up steep, narrow, staircases to get up to the 4th floor, which is the room where I stayed. It's part of the charm of staying in the old town. Even though my room was quite small, it was surprisingly comfortable, even the bed. ||||Unfortunately, being in the center of the old town came with a lot of noise. Just downstairs are several restaurants & bars, which stay open late, and a pub that is open until 2am. Then at 6am every morning, you'll hear the trucks that clean up the old town, as well as several delivery vehicles. It's something you have to get used to for a few nights in exchange for having the perfect location in the old town. Other than this, I really liked my stay...
Read moreThe room is very small, but given the location I take it that is the norm for the area. The location, view, and walkabilty is fantastic. Unfortunately, I didn't like how there was no staff on the property.
This manifests a negative in a few ways, the most important is that no one will come to clean your room, change your trash, or give you new towels. Also, it's always nice to have a local at the front desk to give recommendations and to assist you if you're having issues. Now given the space I know it's not possible to do something like that. Honestly, it felt like you just AirBNB'd a room.
So if that's your preference then you should stay here.. I personally will probably choose a more formal hotel in the future. All in all, there are both pros...
