We were a tour group having lunch at this restaurant. On the menu was fish soup, deep fried Hake fish with fried rice and dessert.
The soup smelled fishy and we had to blanket that with lots of ground pepper. The Hake had bones in it unlike other fillets, and was so hard and dry from the frying. The fried rice was more like fried risotto, with the core of the rice grain still uncooked.
Whilst the food was very mediocre, what caught us by surprise was the poor service. One of us made the mistake of asking for another spoon to get at the fried rice served with the hake. The waiter launches into a tirade saying in Croatia, rice is eaten with a fork and that we should respect this. Just like he would respect what cutlery to use when he goes to Asia. That there is a process of laying out the table and we should imagine if everyone wanted an extra spoon.
Totally uncalled for and unprofessional. This was never about respect or lack of it, just an old Asian lady who has never been to Europe and was not savvy about what cutlery she should be using.
After that, he served us with a sullen face when we asked for more water or Tabasco sauce. Perhaps he had a bad day but please don’t take it out on the customers. The other server, a Filipino I think, was a lot...
Read moreDining at Dalmatino was a pleasant experience. I had the pleasure of trying the Makaruni Shrimp with pistachio pesto, scallops, and octopus salad, each dish leaving a positive impression.
The Makaruni Shrimp with pistachio pesto stood out with its unique combination of flavors. The pasta was perfectly al dente, and the shrimp were succulent and fresh. The pistachio pesto added a rich, nutty twist that elevated the dish to new heights.
The scallops were tender and flavorful.
The octopus salad was delightful. The octopus was tender, not chewy, and the salad was fresh and well-seasoned although the arugula was a bit bitter. However, with the addition of olives, it provided a perfect balance of textures and flavors, making it a refreshing start to the meal.
The staff at Dalmatino Dubrovnik were attentive and friendly, ensuring that our dining experience was seamless and enjoyable.

Read moreDalmatino is a Dalmatian restaurant located in Dubrovnik, Croatia, focusing on traditional methods, but utilising modern approaches to create their dishes.
Firstly, the cold seafood platter featured a large amount of octopus which was well tenderised. It had a light coating of lemon juice and white wine vinegar, also being topped with fresh cherry tomatoes, olives and onion. The tuna was soft, fresh and melting with a subtle meaty taste. The prawns were slightly chewy, being a little overcooked, but nonetheless, they tasted fresh and had a light splash of lemon.
The mussels were fresh, soft on the palate and had a modern twist, differing from the classic Dalmatian “buzara” mussels. Following the Dalmatian basics, they had lots of garlic, white wine and olive oil, but additionally they utilised onion and tomato in the sauce, creating a more Italian influenced recipe.
The calamari was goldenly seared on the outside, with a soft bite into the flesh. Alongside the calamari was an authentic blitva, topped with a few crisply-barbecued...
