I was very disappointed by my stay. The location and common areas are very nice, but the hostel lacks attention to detail. For example, the room that I was staying in had broken power outlets and didn’t have outlets near all of the beds, and the shower had no door and bathroom had no ventilation which made it difficult to shower without making a mess.
None of these are huge issues; my main frustration was that the hostel advertises having washing machines, but they did not when I arrived. I understand that sometimes that sort of thing happens (you forget to take it off the website), but what really frustrated me was the response to something that was their mistake. They pointed out a couple of very expensive laundromats that I would need to walk fairly far to reach and could give no other alternatives. This is all for a hostel that is, in my opinion, quite expensive and not worth the price.
I booked here because it was literally the only place with space on the island, which is no surprise in hindsight.
(edit): To address the points in the response, I’ve included the following photos.
The first picture is the shower. Note there is a curtain, but it must hang out of the shower stall, otherwise it will block the drain. This causes the entire bathroom floor wet in the process. Also note the holder for the shower head is broken. As I said before, this wasn’t a big issue to me, but it contextualizes my other negative experiences.
For the second point, I’ve attached a google maps image to the laundry place I was recommended (I hope I didn’t overstate the distance originally, my point is that it is definitely not 3 minutes away), and it costed 160 kuna (equivalent to more than 20 euros). Note that I wasn’t upset that the hostel didn’t offer laundry due to covid, a valid reason. The problem is that it was advertised as having laundry which I planned for before booking, and the staff were unhelpful when I asked if something could be done.
There are tons of people who had positive experiences at this hostel, but I also wanted to share mine, and I think I...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of staying at an extraordinary hostel that left a lasting impression on me. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I was greeted with an ambiance that transcended the typical hostel experience.
The first thing that struck me was the impeccable cleanliness and attention to detail throughout the entire facility. The common areas were tastefully decorated, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Whether I was lounging in the communal living space or enjoying a meal in the well-appointed kitchen, I felt like I was in a five-star establishment.
The staff at this hostel truly went above and beyond to make my stay exceptional. Owners of the place Matko and Julia are out of this world. They were not only friendly and approachable but also incredibly knowledgeable about the local area. Their recommendations for off-the-beaten-path attractions added an extra layer of excitement to my trip.
What truly set this hostel apart was its commitment to fostering a sense of community among its guests. From organized group outings to engaging communal activities, I had the opportunity to connect with fellow travelers from all walks of life. It was refreshing to see how the hostel provided a platform for cultural exchange and meaningful connections.
Of course, a comfortable and restful sleep is paramount during any trip, and I was delighted to find that the accommodations were top-notch. The dormitory-style rooms were thoughtfully designed with privacy curtains, personal charging stations, and lockers for securing belongings. The beds were remarkably comfortable, ensuring that I woke up refreshed and ready to explore each day.
In conclusion, my experience at this extraordinary hostel was nothing short of exceptional. It redefined my perception of what a hostel can offer, combining the best elements of comfort, community, and convenience. If you're seeking a truly memorable and enriching travel experience, I wholeheartedly recommend considering this remarkable accommodation for your...
Read moreI have never been treated so poorly at a hostel. Upon arrival I was looked up and down and questioned about my age. I am 42, in the booking terms it states 45 as the maximum age. The two girls at reception made a big deal about my age saying I was too old to stay with them as the age limit was 35 and refused to allow me to check in. I showed them in the listing conditions where it stated age limit of 45, but they weren’t happy and rang someone to get ‘permission’ to allow me to stay. All the while they making out that they were doing ME a favour, saying it wasn’t personal but that I would be uncomfortable being around the ‘young kids’. They kept telling me the ‘young kids get drunk and are so loud’. I joked with them a little at first, but I was honestly so embarrassed being discriminated against, and spoken to condescendingly in front of so many other other guests. They treated me like I was some kind of little old lady who they didn’t want around.
After they finally accepted my booking and took my money, I went and sat on the terrace quietly as I waited for my room to be ready. As I was sitting there I felt very self conscious for the first time in my life as a solo traveller. I was embarrassed in front of everyone and humiliated because of my age and it took all my energy not to cry. I decided to book alternative accomodation and leave as I did not feel welcome there. I asked if they would refund me since I’d paid only 5 minutes before (and they made it clear they didn’t want me there anyway,) but they refused. I told them I had never been treated so poorly in my life, and I left. Fortunately I screenshot the booking because As soon as I walked out the door, they changed the age limit online to under 35. I also complained to HostelWorld who did not assist in getting a refund despite it being illegal to discriminate against a person due...
