I will start out mentioning that I audit hotels and restaurants as my career. I've worked in hospitality for over 15 years and am very passionate about my experiences. We were at this bar to enjoy our first night in Hvar. The ambiance was really nice, and we were really enjoying our time. I went up to the bar to order our second round of drinks and the bartender stated we needed to order from our server that we had not seen in the first 2 hours while being there. Once our drinks were delivered, the server stated we didn't meet the minimum of 1000 kuna and would need to pay by cash, but we met the minimum between our bartender and the server. They refused to allow us to pay by credit card, and we didn't have enough cash. The required minimum amounts for credit cards between the bar and the restaurant kept changing. I offered several solutions and ordered more drinks, but they still refused to allow credit card transactions. When walking out, my boyfriend was hit by the bouncer. Our other friend stated he would get cash while the bouncer apologized, but then was punched twice. We finally came to an unreasonable solution and they finally let us leave, yet I was terrified for my life - as a five foot tall American female, we had an over 6ft male following us back to the place we were staying. I ran back at the male to scare him away. I would never post something negative from a restaurant or bar as I know everyone has off nights. However, I was worried about my safety, and I want to make sure that anyone going into this bar is fairly warned and aware. Proceed at...
Read moreWe were in Hvar last week ..after a beautiful meal and drinks in another nice establishment we decided we would have some birthday drinks for my friend here ...big mistake...the place was empty with reserved signs placed all over the tables outside. We sat with our drinks at a table that was reserved. We sat for 10 mins and a female waitress asked us had we reserved a table...we said we hadn’t but would gladly move when the reserved party arrived ...then we were asked if we were drinking bottles ( as it’s clear they only want bottle paying customers at these tables ) we said we weren’t and again said nicely we would move from table when reserved party arrived . Sudddenly a bouncer aggressively manhandled my friend out of the bar by putting her hand behind her back and pushing her out the side gate and next I was pushed out. Never , ever have I , or my friends ever experienced such rude, arrogant , aggressive staff. I am utterly appalled by the manner your staff dealt with the situation it escalated out of nothing. If I could give 0 I would ...as a visitor to Hvar do yourself a favour there are plenty lovely pubs on Hvar go visit them , enjoy your night and enjoy being treated with respect and not because of how much...
Read moreA cool bar in a great spot and not a terrible warm up spot for the inevitable ferry to the real party. However drinks are incredibly expensive, keep an eye out for the bar staff in regards to cash/card payments. We had a girl at the front/outdoor bar who refused to take card even though the doorman/manager explicitly told us that card was acceptable. We paid cash and fairly sure the bartender pocketed some of the money...seems to be a running theme in Croatia.
Pay your staff a fair wage. They will provide decent service and not scam your business to try and earn a living.
Upon leaving the doorman/manager thanked us for coming (he was fantastic and made us feel comfortable)...we then told him of the card/cash situation. They promptly asked who the staff member was and led us to said bar and proceeded to give that bartender some very choice words.... said bartender gave us nothing but the evil eye and a look of pure Croatian rage, fellow bar staff also looked at us very disapprovingly
Apart from that, very crowded at 11pm, running theme of Croatia and much of Europe these days is table/bottle/VIP. Really not the best experience. Go for 1-2 drinks and then leave. There are more places with a more comfortable...
