In the weeks running up to our stay in this hostel, we started to get more and more skeptical because of negative reviews. However, we were pleasantly surprised with our 2 person room.
We had booked in advance through Booking.com, and checking in went smoothly. Our passports were checked, and we moved into the hostel. Our first impression of the common area and room was proper and clean.
Our room was clean and big enough. It did get really hot, but that was because the general temperature peaked around 30C° and the sun was onto our window for most of the day. The windows opening combined with the fan provided the necessary cooling at night.
The hostel wasn't at all that loud. We heard a couple of noises, and I heard the elevator ping a few times since it was right across us from the hall. But nothing out of the ordinary for a hostel.
Transport and accessibility were better than expected. Praha-holesovice is about a 10-15 min walk away, from where you can take metro C to the center of prague. The tram is also an option, as tram 17 takes you around to the center as well.
A supermarket and café are about 5 minutes to walk away, hence why we didn't make use of the breakfast options.
The hostel itself provides cleaning of rooms, granted you don't put up your 'do not disturb' sign. They don't change your towels, though. If you want fresh towels, you had to take them down themselves and pay for it by weight. If you don't plan on paying for that, just take some of your own.
The hostel also makes it very clear that 22:00 through 06:00 is quiet time. If you violate that, you are most likely going to be fined.
The only complaint is that the common area provides a small corner with a microwave and water cooker and that water cooker is really slow. If you have the patience for your water to cook, you can make yourself some noodles or soup with it.
Besides that, the vending machines downstairs only accepted cash (CZ crowns, of course) and no card. The hostel itself has an ATM in which you have to withdraw at least 1.000 crowns and pay a hefty fee of 7 euros on top. Not recommended.
Also, besides claiming they are a 24-hour service hostel, there was, on multiple occasions, no personnel to be found in the hostel and around...
Read moreJust arrived in Prague last Saturday to spend one week and I was super excited with the idea to stay in this hostel. The pictures are amazing and they have a swimming pool and gym. However, at the arrival moment, I got disappointed: THE HOSTEL IS COMPLETELY FAKE. The pictures are much better than reality, the rooms are trash and they charge for everything: a locker, towel, gym etc. If you want to change your currency there, better don't: THEY HAVE THE WORSE PRICE OF PRAGUE. Behind it, what is an opportunity to charge in Euros, they charge, when is better to charge in Corona, they change. I got too disappointed, the bathroom was leaking, the toilet paper was the gross, that I decided to accept an invitation of a friend and sleep with him in his house for 3 days. I left the Hostel from Monday and when I came back Thursday I realized that I had been robbed. YES, SOMEONE BROKEN MY WARDROBE AND STOLEN MY HANDBAG. When I went to complain in the reception, the hostel simple clean their hands. They don't take any responsibility for the security and safety of your belongings. So when I realized I was completely vulnerable. They do not know who came inside of the hostel, they are very unorganized to know what time people make the check-in, what time was the check-out. They communicate themselves via Facebook, which can be more unprofessional I do not know. I called the Police to solve problems. The policeman said to me is super common these things happen in that HOSTEL. I DO NOT KNOW HOW THEY CAN BE A NICE RATE IN TRIPADVISOR. The end of the story, I am without my hand bang running away from the hostel because It ruined my trip to Prague ever. They did not give me any refund, the girl did not know about my case in the check-out time, so I had to explain everything again and the reason I was not with the paper to take the towel money back. IT'S ABSURD. I HOPE THEIR RATE FALL DOWN. I AM GIVING ONE STAR BECAUSE I CAN NOT GIVE ZERO. Do...
Read morePluses: huge number of rooms, so it's easy to keep extending and finding a new room. 5 minutes walk to the tram. 5 minutes walk to the grocery store. Pool and sauna are lovely. The gym is extremely good (it's free for hotel guests, 90CZK for hostel guests who booked direct, and I believe 120CZK for hostel guests who booked through a third party). Honestly, I would continue to book here every time just for the gym alone, it is extremely well-equipped, best I've seen in a long time. Only missing a deadlift platform. 24hr reception is convenient. They have beer and snack vending machines. Self laundry for 200CZK, pay some more and they will do it all for you. The rooms are well designed, good layouts, best lockers I've seen, comfortable beds. It is pretty quiet, especially the private rooms were dead silent.
Keep in mind: it's both a hotel and hostel, so the vibe is a bit strange, neither a hostel vibe nor a hotel vibe. There are kids, families, seniors, backpackers, all sorts here. It's not exactly a social backpacker vibe, but you can meet people in the dorms.
Negatives: The information about the hostel is often out of date or just wrong. The quality of the receptionists is similarly inconsistent. They will all frequently charge you different prices for the same thing and give different levels of service. You have to know the prices, because reception might not. *There is no kitchen. There is only a microwave. Breakfast is the same every morning: plain yogurt, bread, ham, sometimes cheese, apple, wafers. Not bad, but gets boring pretty quick. Some rooms have no AC and are crazy hot. I also had some issues with toilets malfunctioning. The Wi-Fi is far from perfect - I had a private room and the wifi was constantly going out for a few minutes at a time.
All in all, very big hostel/hotel, not the best infrastructure or vibe around, however I would still stay here because it's pretty nice and the gym and sauna...
