I've stayed in many, many places in many, many countries, and my stay here is among the most pleasant I have had. The rooms are in a colonial era house, decorated tastefully, with a long outside walkway/sitting area/balcony with a panoramic view over Quito.
We enjoyed staying here so much that although we booked for two days, we stayed five. I expect we shall return.
The best part of our stay was the care, attention, and interaction we had with Paulina and her family. They helped us get settled and oriented the night we arrived, suggested places to see, showed interest in what we had seen and where we had been, gave us advice about how to stay safe and un-sunburned, and treated us like friends.
Our room, with very high ceilings, had a refinished but original floor and what looked to be original shutters on the windows. We had a sitting room, gas stove, sink, and table. Everything was very clean. The bathroom was modern and the water temperature fine for washing and showering.
The place is literally a 10-15 minute walk away from Plaza Grande. There are several inexpensive restaurants and a brewpub just around the corner. There's a public, rooftop bar in the hostel around the corner.
We enjoyed the breakfasts very much -- everything was fresh and delicious. If you are arriving from the airport, particularly at night, Paulina can arrange a ride for the same price as a taxi. Without the street address (Calle Rios N10-71), the place might be difficult to find. The number is posted above the large, worn...
Read moreOn arrival we were faced with a very closed, very heavy wooden door, with a knocker but no bell or instructions. After knocking 3 times with no answer, we managed to find a phone number for the place and thankfully I'd already bought an Ecuadorian SIM so we were able to get hold of someone to let us in.
The room we had was ok... Except that it was absolutely freezing, and the "en-suite" was across the outdoor courtyard. Sometimes we had hot water, but it would normally not last more than about 10 minutes so if more than one of you want to shower good luck with that.
Trying to leave was even more difficult than arriving. Bearing in mind that we had paid the owner the day before because we were leaving very early in the morning (which we told her), no-one informed us that there would be an additional padlock on the external door which none of our keys worked with. This led to us having to literally yell for help at 2am in the morning (because we also had no idea which room the hosts were in), whilst our Uber driver was waiting outside. Sincere apologies to the other guests at the time, we were somewhat panicking!
Overall, I would not recommend this place. It's cheap and basic, but for us we wish we'd just spent a bit more and stayed...
Read moreA beautiful place to stay that is very close to La Ronda, a nice place to go eat in the evenings to get typical Ecuadorian food. During the day, it is safe to walk around however at night, it is recommended not to walk far and to get a taxi anywhere instead. I would suggest asking the owners what the cost of a taxi should be at the time so that you are not overcharged. I went with family and the room rented had a kitchen which led off to a spacious room with a queen bed and bunk bed. Up the stairs there was a loft which had another bed. The place was very clean and homey. It was a The owners were very welcoming and friendly, they provided us advice whenever we had a question. For an extra charge, they can provide breakfast at the time you want if you wish. The only complaint would be the shortage of hot water. Depending on the time, there would be no hot water, especially if more than one was showering at once. You also had to play with it, in order for the water to heat up. However we did mention it to the owners so hopefully they'll work on it. Overall a lovely stay at the quaint house with a beautiful view and a homey atmosphere. I would definitely...
