La Mirada De Solitario George — Hotel in Parroquia Puerto Ayora

Don’t go to this hotel !! ||At first you think they are good people but actually they’re very manipulative. When you’ll arrive they will try to change your plans to stay more time in Santa Cruz and spend only one day on Isabela because they will try to sell you tours in Santa Cruz to make money. It scared us because we thought (as they told us) that there was nothing to do in Isabela which is totally false, this island is beautiful and we stayed there 5 days at the end. So don’t listen to the lady that will try to change your plans to make you buy her tours (she’s working with agencies).||Now regarding the place, we payed 25$ for a double bedroom. The place is nice but very far from the city + we didn’t have hot water. You should go to Vista El Mar which is the same price and it’s 150 meters from the sea !!!! La Mirada del Solitario George is almost 20 minutes from the harbor….. ||And finally, we had a very bad experience with them because they cancelled our last night that we booked 1 month before the arrival. They told us that they gave the room to a family that was going to stay more nights than us. This situation was very unfair because they clearly just cancelled our reservation to make more money with other clients !! First time in Ecuador that I face such a bad person with clients. At least, we ended our last night at Vista El Mar, we payed the same price for nice people and a beautiful hostel...

This is a very good value for money hostel with excellent rooms set around an empty swimming pool (at the time of visiting in April 2019) and a well stocked shared kitchen with fridges and every utensil we would ever need. The kitchen and dining area was well used by the guests as it was extremely practical and a friendly area to cook and eat (or just drink) in. The rooms were also excellent, air con worked very well and lots of drying areas for towels and other wet gear. Only downside was the hot water - or lack of it. None of us had a hot shower in all the time we were there. Not that it really bothered us as tepid (which was the hottest it generally got) was fine after a day in the Galapagos' heat and humidity. The shower's electrical wiring also looked a tad dodgy, but it all seemed to function ok. One other note, the sound proofing between bathrooms was non existent - fortunately we were part of the same family sharing two different rooms, otherwise we would have been party to every single word or whisper to what was going on next door! All in all, a very pleasant experience which I would recommend - the staff (Doris mainly) was very friendly and helped us with our itinerary over the days we stayed...
