As many other reviewers have said, the rooms and stay at Hotel Ecuatreasures were extremely comfortable. But it's the staff that really blew me out of the water. I arranged for the hotel to pick me up at the airport and had a couple pick me up right from the arrivals and bring me to the hotel, talking politely but not overwhelming me as we drove into the city. The hotel also arranged transportation for me back to the airport on my way out.
Once I arrived at the hotel, Hernan, one of the staff members, was extremely welcoming, and once I was settled, gave me an introduction to all I should try to see in Quito during my short visit, using a map that he drew all over. I mentioned that I wanted to do things that were quite far away (Teleferico, Mitad del Mundo, La Capilla del Hombre) all in the 24 hours that I was in Quito, and he mentioned that they offer a private tour, where one of the hotel staff would take me around to 5-6 spots around the city through 8 hours the following day. Typically the tour is for 2 people ($180), but because I was traveling solo, they offered for me to do it alone for $160. Given that it was for the entire day and included a guide and transportation, I was willing to break my budget a bit. Joel was my guide the following day and was just INCREDIBLE. He was so knowledgeable about everything Quito and was willing to speak to any question I had (I asked about the political landscape and we got into quite a conversation about the differences among Ecuador, other South American countries, and the US). We went to Teleferico and walked up and around the top, one of the volcanic craters that currently has farm land inside of it (Pululahua), the real Mitad del Mundo, lunch in La Mariscal, La Capilla Del Hombre, and then back to the hotel. I loved every second of it and was so thankful I got to see everything I had hoped to do in such a short period of time!
The breakfasts were delicious - authentic Ecuadorian cuisine. Additionally, the lunch that Joel and I had was a traditional Ecuadorian almuerzo. The staff said their goal was to allow for a truly authentic experience, and I really feel like that was what I got! Thank you for everything!
PS. As with everything in Quito, the hotel prefers cash. I had to use a credit card because I wasn't expecting this, but it would've been nice to have paid them in their...
Read moreAfter a week of adventurous hiking in Peru, we were looking for some serious relaxation in Quito. The Hotel Casa Ecuatreasures was the PERFECT spot. It's a small inn located in the historic area of Quito. The owner, Hernan, and his right hand, Blanca, certainly know the meaning of the word HOSPITALITY. |The inn itself is just beautiful. The breakfast area feels like a European courtyard, complete with red geraniums! And breakfast itself is AMAZING. They provide traditional Ecuadorian breakfast food along with eggs and fresh juice. And put the tree tomato sauce on everything! It's delicious. ||The rooms are very comfortable. We upgraded to a slightly bigger room with a balcony. We had plenty of room for two people with our luggage. (Just a warning, the street below is cobblestone and you can hear the occasional car making its way toward Independence Plaza. We enjoyed hearing the city wake up each morning, but if that would bother you, ask for a room in the middle or back of the hotel). ||We booked a massage in their spa one afternoon and it was GLORIOUS. If you have time, you want to take advantage of this (very reasonable) service. ||Hernan was the perfect host. He helped us understand the history of the city and recommended (and booked) some lovely restaurants. We booked a night tour of the city with him and saw parts of Quito we never would have found on our own - even a night market with some amazing (and safe) street food to enjoy. ||We hope another trip to Quito is in our future and we will be...
Read moreMy wife and I just came back from a week long stay and couldn’t have dreamed of a better experience. We would consider the hotel the gateway to experiencing the historical district of Quito. The service was exceptional, from arranging pick up at the airport to private tours of the city by the owner, and the personalized breakfast every morning that took into account my allergies.
Our room was exactly what we needed without extra “fluff”, showers were hot and powerful, bed was clean and comfortable. What more could you ask for?
The location allowed for us to walk to the center of the historical district easily each day, but keep in mind it is hilly. A wonderful cafe was around the corner with fantastic views, a little cookie baker was just steps from the front door, and the neighbors all greeted you with a smile.
Hernan, our host, was fantastic with all his assistance. From his language skills, I don’t yet speak Spanish, to his listening to our ideas for the day and adding small suggestions that made it even more memorable. We do, after this visit, consider him a friend and an asset to ALL of our future visits to this amazing country.
If you are coming from North America your visit will only benefit from knowing that this is a safe and welcoming place to stay that feels more like a home than a hotel. You will be greeted with open arms and you will leave with warmth in your heart from the hospitality.
10 STARS! Will...
