The Pavillon was recommended by family and we did find it a beautiful location with gorgeous gardens and pool. Lovely staff throughout and we can't fault the lovely polite treatment we received the whole week.
Plus points were the breakfast had a big choice trying to meet lots of needs. Especially good was the egg station with a choice of freshly cooked eggs. Lots of nice bread, yogurts, fruit, pastries.
Staff were friendly and helpful at breakfast and noted to be even more so towards the end of our stay!
The pool was amazing. We swam lengths several days and the water was a lovely temperature and felt clean. The pool staff were very helpful all week arranging towels and moving shades and sunbeds as needed. We could always get a sunbed in January.
We saw 2 people slip over on the smooth areas of the pool on separate occasions. It was extremely slippy after getting your feet wet. Staff were quick to respond to this however. Do take some rubber flipflops to wear around the pool to avoid this happening.
The pool bar staff were also friendly and professional with a good humour. We found the pool menu food to be delicious all week. Alcohol is available in this hotel. The local wine is very nice.
We didn't eat in any of the hotel restaurants in the evenings. We would have liked to dine in the restaurant in the garden but the cost was a set menu for US$60 per person. As we are not big eaters this just wasn't an option for us. An Al a Carte menu would have been better for us to be able to choose a smaller amount of food. Food in the local restaurants a very easy stroll or taxi ride was extremely good value, tasty, plentiful and all got better reviews than the hotel.
There were other restaurants in the adjacent Winter Palace with Al a Carte but you needed a jacket for one of these so do ensure men take one if you wish to dine there. The bar was worth a visit and we enjoyed a cocktail and this came accompanied with a selection of nibbles. It felt like a special place.
So to the room which scored lowest! This was a good size and large bathroom and a balcony with sofa and table. Two chairs and table in the bedroom. A welcome fruit plate was provided. Useful extras in the bathroom particularly shampoo, conditioner and shower gel provided in large bottles. Nice clean fluffy towels, hairdryer and razor point if you need one. The beds were comfy. We had a twin on booking but we asked about have a double in arrival and were offered a choice to look at and decide. This was a very nice gesture.
The room was reasonably clean and was well looked after during our stay by the staff. Bed made and towels refreshed as needed.
Generally the hotel needs a bit of an upgrade. Even having a deep clean throughout with attention to detail in cleaning dust off the doors and out of grooves and replacing the peeling door numbers would have made a big difference. All the carpets in the hotel need removing and replacing in all areas including bedrooms. Some updating in bedrooms would be good. Our bedside lamp had a bit of an exposed cord and it intermittently went off if knocked. We should have reported it but we didn't get round to it.
We would expect to have a small kettle, selection of teas and coffee sachets as a minimum and some milk provided in a 5* hotel. The fridge was a welcome place for the complementary water bottles provided. Suggest you take a travel one if this is important to you.
Overall we really enjoyed our holiday. We would return to this hotel despite giving some constructive feedback as the positives outweighed the negatives. We hope the hotel works in areas mentioned by us and others.

Read moreThe worst hotel ever, with an extremely bad experience. The hotel uses false pictures to promote itself. The room door of the hotel cannot be locked, which poses a safety hazard. The facilities are extremely old and outdated, and there is a lack of room amenities. The hotel's attitude towards its guests is extremely perfunctory, and they are unwilling to solve problems for the guests. From the manager to the waitstaff, their behavior is very contemptuous and unprofessional. They also discriminate against guests of Asian descent. Here are the details: The hotel uses pictures of the Winter Palace Luxor for its own promotion. However, if you book this hotel, you will actually stay at the Pavillon Winter Luxor. Although these two hotels share some staff and a common garden area, the building of Pavillon Winter Luxor is far inferior in terms of scenery and facilities compared to the Winter Palace Luxor. The pictures on various apps, including the official website, are all false advertisements. The guiding pages also do not make it clear. This is consumer fraud. We booked a garden view room at the Pavillon Winter Luxor for April 9th to April 10th. The hotel front desk checked us into a room on the second floor. Upon entering the room, we found that the balcony overlooked the breakfast tent on the first floor, and there was no garden view at all. Moreover, our room and the adjacent room could be connected through a door in the middle. Not only did this cause poor sound insulation, but both doors of our room and the adjacent room could not be locked. They could be opened from the other side, which means our room had a very serious safety hazard. After discovering this, we called the hotel front desk. First, I called the hotel front desk at around 10:00 p.m. The front desk told me that there were no other double rooms available and that we could not change rooms. After hanging up, I checked the booking status on my phone and found that double rooms were still available for the night. So, the front desk staff were lying. I then called the customer relations number. After I spoke two sentences, the customer relations operator transferred my call back to the first front desk operator without informing me. He still said that there were no rooms available and that there was nothing he could do for me. At around 6:00 a.m. the next morning, we were woken up by the noise of the breakfast tent door opening and closing on the first floor. At the same time, cooking fumes from the breakfast tent below drifted onto our balcony. When we went to the breakfast area, we saw that there was a garden view if we ate outside. So, we took our plates outside. During our meal, a gust of wind from the side kicked up a lot of dust, which dirtied the food on everyone's tables. A waiter saw all of this. He apologized to a white family at another table, but he said nothing to us, as if he hadn't seen us at all. We ate for about half an hour. It was only when we left the restaurant that an employee said "have a nice day" to us. During the rest of the time, no waiter took the initiative to talk to us, but they were particularly warm to the...
Read moreFor the price that we paid (45 USD) and considering that this is Egypt, this hotel is ok. But this hotel doesn't have any of the standards you would expect from a Sofitel - it felt more like a poorly maintained Novotel/Mercure, or perhaps an Ibis. Even for its sister hotel, the Winter Palace, branding it as a "Sofitel" feels like a stretch.
Upsides: Beautiful garden Spacious room Well located in Luxor Relatively cheap
Issues we had: Barely any internet connection, BOTH in the Pavilion and in the Winter Palace! You better bring a 4G SIM card with a lot of data Very poor quality shower head (just throws water all over the place - not comfortable at all) Room feels cheap, and carpet floor is full of stains Receptionist did not recognize our status (we are Gold members, and had to ask for our free-drink voucher. Of course, no upgrade) Breakfast is ok (good egg/crepes station, and all the basics options are available), but definitely not 5-star level. Fruits are not fresh, orange juice feels like orange-flavoured sugar water, sausages are dry, yoghurts the cheap industrial local version, and overall selection is relatively limited
Also, contrary to what other reviews say, keep in mind that staying at the Pavillon is VERY DIFFERENT from staying at the Winter Palace: Different rooms, different entrance & different building Different reception and receptionists Different breakfast Different toiletry products, presumably of lower quality Given our experience on the first night, we asked about upgrading to the Winter Palace for the 2nd night. However, we quickly realize that many of the problems of the Pavillon also exist there! For example: Internet connection is just as poor Breakfast, we were told, has more variety, however the ingredients are the same. I.e., fruits won't be fresher, orange juice still won't be orange juice Hotel overall not well maintained. We noticed, for example, that NONE of the paintings hanging on the walls of the entrance or the halls were straight. They were all tilted, which would not require much skills for any of the employees to fix... In general, there was just very little attention to details
I was about to leave a better review given that this is Egypt, but after having stayed at several other chains in Egypt where we had an amazing experience (Movenpick, Marriott, Meridien), I realized that this hotel is just the exception rather than the norm - it is poorly managed. I really hope that Accor takes a lot at this and rebrand it...
