Stayed here first for 3 days when we got in trouble with one of the other guests because beer and food was stolen from us out of the common fridge. ||We didn't see this other guest perform the theft our selfs but the man in charge of the camp, Jamar, insisted it was this other guest and we trusted Jamar. So we got in a fight with the other guest and decided to do a 3 day trip to the desert and other places and then return when the other guest would be gone.||||The theft of the food didn't stop and we soon realized it was the personnel them self taking guests food from the common kitchen. ||We complained about this and also that the wifi always was down. Jamar explained that wifi was down in all of Dahab. We told him this wasn't true because it worked fine everywhere else. So his solution to the problem was that he thought that we could go to the other places and use their wifi. We said that that was a ridiculous idea and that he should just fix their wifi. He then went into a frenzy and asked us to stop complaining about everything. We thought it was just fare to point out that our stuff was stolen and that the wifi, that is included in the price, didn't work. ||||There is so much negative things to write about the place so i will try to be as short as I can but it wont.||||The personell didn't do any of their tasks unless the owner were there. Then they were all over the place, cleaning the rooms, the common places, painting the walls etc. However when he wasn't there they were just a bunch of useless sitting around taking up the guests space, smoking and drinking coffe all the time. They weren't friendly and Jamar were even hostile at times. He was really the core problem of the whole camp. The guest there was great people but he made sure to talk bad- about everyone and try to turn other guest around each other (our example: the false accusation about the guest stealing from us). He even talked ill about the fantastic cat lady who only did good for the community and the camp. Everyone adored her and he couldn't stand someone doing better for his country.||||Because the workers didn't do any work we the guest our self had to do alla the work. The only one in the work force who really did some of the work was Mohammed who were really friendly and tried to help out and stop Jamars shenanigans.||||The rooms were cheap but not clean. We had to clean our own rooms. ||I would so much more recommend the other fighting Kangaroo camp where we moved over to, after being threatened by Jamar who took a frying pan and hit it in the table! where me, my wife and two other people sat and ate breakfast, because he thought we had made a mess in the kitchen. We had spend the entire morning cleaning the camp.||After that we immediately packed our things and left. ||||Also, he was threatening everyone that he got in an argue with that he would call the police on them. What the police would do under the different circumstances that occurred were very unclear. Of course he never called the police.||||A beautiful camp but with a really hostile environment that just makes you want to cut your vacation short.||||Thanks for listening and please, for your sake, stay at another camp. There are so many good...
Read moreThis is probably the best value accommodation in Dahab. Selection of rooms - small and basic with shared bathrooms, ensuites, and more spacious ensuites with balconies. There's two bedouin-style social areas offering shade, plus a couple of benches in the sun. There's a rudimentary kitchen with two fridge-freezers, stove and pans etc. with a new one being built as I write - should be ready in the next few weeks. FREE drinking water (huge bonus, especially if you hate to waste plastic) and a washing machine for guests' use. The place is kept clean and is well managed. Staff and owner are friendly and responsible. There's cats in the common areas (but they don't wander into the rooms). Good location in the middle of Dahab, 1 minute walk to the sea. Especially low rates for longer term stays. My room is an en suite twin with balcony. Two single beds (linen and towels provided), a desk, two chairs, mirror, bedside table, wardrobe, bathroom is fine, balcony is a nice place to relax. Wi-fi is decent most of the time. Note: there's I think three guesthouses in Dahab with the name "kangaroo" and/or "oasis". This is the one at the end of the short alleyway opposite Ali Baba restaurant. I know I sound a bit like an advert, but I'm really pleased to have found this place - been here four weeks now, relaxing, reading, writing. Their whatsapp is...
Read moreFalse advertising. This rooftop palapa is not as advertised: not air conditioned, it is not secure (no way to close and lock windows), it is not on ground floor, it does not have a bathtub, it does not face the courtyard, it has no free wifi. The shared bathroom was not useable. The bathroom stank, was filthy, the toilet was backed up. A dog in the courtyard barked and howled all night, so even with earplugs it was hard to sleep. The room had a dirty ash tray full of cigarettes and an old water bottle. The access stairs were covered in filth.
Spend $5 more and you will get a clean, secure room in Dahab, with AC , super clean shared bathroom, and free wifi.
I am giving two stars rather than one only because the staff, Mahmet and Tabu, were exceptional: super-kind, helpful, generous, and trustworthy. The camp was also a great place to meet...
