This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. It started off with no one at the reception during my arrival at 18:30, and I had to wait for at least 10 minutes before anyone showed up. The staff who showed up had really poor English skills, making it almost impossible to understand what she was trying to say. To this day, I'm unsure if breakfast was included in my reservation or not. Probably not, because she mentioned something about the breakfast costing hundreds of euros (I'm not sure about the real cost; she used numbers I had never heard before, containing the word "hundred").
Walking up the stairs to get to my room, I was immediately hit by a stench of urine. Unfortunately, the smell did not subside in the room but only got worse, especially in the bathroom.
The room itself was its own kind of disaster. The water pressure in the shower was non-existent, no real body soap was provided, the towels did not soak up any water (this was a first for me as well), and the door handles were sticky.
The furniture in the room felt like it was lifted straight out of a museum. The carpet looked really dirty, making me not want to put any of my luggage or belongings on the floor. This, combined with the strong smell of sewage, made me feel nauseous and immediately want to leave again.
Apart from two desk lamps, there was no real light in the room. Ironically, during the night, the room didn't get dark, since the blinds don't cover the entire window, letting the light of the streetlights in.
The "mattress" (the 5cm foam thing you might know from the cheapest of hostels) was way too hard.
It is currently 2023, so I would expect some kind of possibility to charge my devices and accessories (phone, watch, power bank). This was made almost impossible since the only available power outlet (not even close to the bed, by the way) was broken. There was the option to disconnect the minibar or one of the antique lamps to get some much-needed electricity. I went with option 2.
In the end, I decided to spend the night at the 50€ hostel next door, which far surpassed all my expectations and everything Savoy had to offer. It's quite crazy when you think about it.
After complaining the next day, they gave me another room, which didn't have the smell issues. Everything else stayed the same more or less, with an added bonus of a long hair from the previous person in the bed.
I think I forgot to mention one thing: This is a five-star hotel we are talking about.
For anyone reading this: Do yourself a favor and avoid booking a room in this place. It is clearly a rip-off, trying to siphon your tourist euros for subpar or nonexistent...
Read moreEasily accessible from the bus to the airport and 500m from the old town square the location is great and the lobby area and outside are welcoming. |We were allocated a room on the 5th floor at the front, accessible by a small iron elevator. |The room having a slight pitched roof over the bed made it slightly tricky to go/leave the bed each day. The room is not massive and probably could do with removing a table or chair. One wall socket did not work and when boiling the kettle we had to place the kettle on the floor as the remaining 2 sockets were at floor level, 1 behind the fridge and the other under the bedside.|The room was very warm when entering so we slept with the windows open. At street level the road is quiet but at roof level the near by trams/buses must bounce sound of the buildings and noise is tolerable but not great. |You need to leave a sign on the door for room cleaning, so we declined day1 but took up day 2. The beds were remade and fresh towels…that’s where it stopped. The bins still full, coffee/milk not replaced, no hand towels provided.|The bath is around 60cm high that they provide you with a stool to get in/out, I’m physically fit and went running whilst there and had anxiety using the shower (over the bath). |The male receptionist was rude and short always telling us the bar/restaurant was closed when asking solely for ice, yet was a mere 5m from him. There was not one client in the area and he had nothing to do, even with other staff informing us they spent most evenings on their phones through boredom.|The hotel in the morning gets busy for breakfast at 8.30-9.30 and seats perhaps 20-30 at best so be ready. Average quality and the lady waiting tables trying to keep up at busy periods alone. |I did not see anyone eat/drink at the bar and the average client was 70 years of age whilst we stayed so lacks atmosphere.|It ticks a box but cleaning and FOH need lessons in customer service and...
Read moreThis hotel was just what we wanted: a nice historic space within walking distance of most sights and with an included breakfast — for a reasonable price! We stayed 3 nights in room 405 which was spacious and full of modern accessories, and I always appreciate a terrycloth robe so thanks! I had requested a view, and we had a good view of the square in front of the hotel. The breakfast was a big buffet with lots of healthy choices and some delicious breads (love that Estonian bread). We also had fried eggs or an omelet made to order each day, a nice touch (and the eggs were perfectly over easy, kudos for that). Happily, all dishes were promptly replaced on the buffet. The hotel was almost full, but we never had trouble finding a space at breakfast. Our only suggestion is that the bathtub in room 405 needs to be made safer. It is so high that you have to use the (provided) footstool to get in and out of it. Our ideas were to add a secure bathmat inside the tub to prevent slipping when you enter, and also to provide a rough surface on the footstool to make it safer to use it when coming out. (If you are older, I would ask for a room that simply doesn’t have this obstacle. Why take chances?) We found the wifi to be very reliable in our room, the lobby and the restaurant. (And, as we always like to add in a review, we wish this hotel — and others — would go back to having a secure password so that we feel comfortable when we have to take care of financial tasks.) A final thought: We had a rental car as we were beginning a road trip through the Baltics, but it turned out that we never needed the car in Tallinn. We wished we had arranged to pick up the car as we were leaving. Parking is expensive in the Baltics capitals but luckily the hotel had a space for us across the street for 26 euros a night, which was cheaper than nearby alternatives (and the street parking). Thanks for...
