An unforgettable dining experience awaits at Gallis, a restaurant that epitomises culinary excellence in Rovaniemi. From the very moment I entered, I was warmly welcomed by the attentive and genuinely hospitable waitstaff, whose charm and professionalism added a distinct grace to the evening. They guided me through the menu with such passion and knowledge, underscoring their commitment to providing not merely a meal, but a remarkable experience.
The culinary craftsmanship on display at Gallis is, in a word, phenomenal. Each dish was prepared to absolute perfection, showcasing the Chef’s extraordinary talent and precision. The flavours were exquisite, every ingredient harmonising flawlessly to elevate each course into an exceptional culinary experience.
For starters, I chose the Lamb, a beautifully grilled skewer with a forest gremolata that was nothing short of divine. The lamb was tender beyond belief, with a seasoning that left a memorable impression, capturing the essence of flavours found only at the finest dining establishments. Alongside, I indulged in the Sourdough Bread with browned butter, which was simply delightful. The bread was perfectly textured, and the butter had a rich, nuanced depth that truly elevated this simple element of the meal.
Moving to the main course, I selected the Entrecôte — a ribeye steak perfectly grilled with a beautiful marbling that added succulence to each bite. Paired with the Diane sauce, this dish was a masterpiece of culinary balance; the sauce enriched the flavour of the beef, creating a harmony that was both bold and refined. The accompanying French fries were light and crisp, wonderfully delicate, and immensely flavourful. Each element on the plate was crafted with meticulous care, reflecting the Chef’s dedication to quality and finesse.
To conclude, I was treated to the Ice Cream Cake — an ethereal dessert of caramelised apple ice cream, meringue, almonds, and browned butter. The meringue was exceptional, offering a texture and taste that elevated the dessert to new heights. This final touch left a lasting impression, marking the meal as truly extraordinary.
In sum, each course at Gallis was an absolute delight, surpassing even the highest of expectations. The seasoning of each dish was magnificent, showcasing an artistry and skill that undoubtedly set this restaurant apart. Without hesitation, I wholeheartedly recommend Gallis to anyone seeking a transcendent dining experience. It is, without a shadow of doubt, the finest restaurant...
Read moreShort: The main course was excellent (the raindeer sirloin). Other dishes could be improved.
Long: The restaurant itself, was perfect for fine dining. Love the lamps on the tables. The focaccia bread that was served, was not good. Missing salt and it was nearly underbaked. Do not serve underbaked bread to the guests!
The sharing for two, was a not ok. It tasted good, but it was hard to eat in a form of rosetti. It was messy both around my mouth and on the plate. Do not serve any fingerfood that you cannot it eat in one bite. The scallops and the sauce was excellent, but the vegetables in the sauce was too chew. Less chewy vegetables and the starter would have been perfect.
The raindeer sirloin was one of the best dishes I had for a long time. I could eat that dish as a starter, main course and dessert, and still lick the plates. Two minor things. The flatbread should have some spatel to transfer the greasy flatbread to my plate. You shall not have to use your fingers. Second is the dry raindeer heart. Not sure it contributed anything in flavours. Maybe you should smoke it first like the Japanese katsuobushi, to enhance the umami flavour. Otherwise, this dish was perfect. We have been at many fancy restaurants around the world, and I think this dish is among the top three.
The creame caramel was really good. No complaints there. Thank for the special attention to my birthday.
The service was not the best for this kind of restaurant. The food arrived before our drinks! And our table was soon filled plates glasses. Missing the discreet service that clean the table, fill the water glasses, without you mentioned it.
Overall, I want to go back only for the the raindeer sirloin. That was something...
Read moreWe visited the Gallis restaurant because we were staying at the Glass Resort (you can read more about Glass Resort in our next review), to which this restaurant belongs, and in addition to dinner, hotel breakfast is also served there. The restaurant has a very nice interior and a very intimate atmosphere. We were very hungry, so we ordered Reindeer Rack with grilled reindeer tongue, celeriac and black garlic, Fried pikeperch with remoulade sauce, grilled lemon, mint peas and french fries (but I changed fried pikeperch for arctic char-great choice), Truffle potato puree, Grilled Lamb on a skewer with forest gremolata and chicken nuggets. Everything was perfectly served, very tasty, local and fresh. Later, the children also ordered ice cream cookies and special sea buckthorn/mulberry and blueberry lemonades. We liked the restaurant so much that we returned the next evening. The next evening we ordered Fried pikeperch with remoulade sauce, grilled lemon, mint peas and french fries and Onion pie. Both evenings we were served by the incredibly nice, friendly, patient and helpful Ms. Asha, who made our experience even more profound, and we thank her very much for that. There is also great local children's menu, similar to that for adults. The restaurant is not big, so we recommend making a reservation in advance. The restaurant is also suitable for smaller groups and for special occasions. More on instagram...
