This is supposed to be a 5-Star hotel, and in terms of the service provided I would agree but overall I would rate it as 4-Star. ||We visited Levi 10 years ago and stayed in the Levi Spa Hotel part of the complex which includes the Design Hotel. We booked a Deluxe Double which in retrospect was a mistake as we were there for 10 days and the double was somewhat small - for a lesser price one could have had a suite in the adjacent Levi Spa Hotel or for additional expense a suite in the Design Hotel. However, we had an excellent holiday (cross-country skiing) and it was our fault we booked a room which was smaller than we would have wished. ||The coach from the airport dropped you at the door of the hotel; reception for the Design Hotel is in the same building which is also for the Levi Spa but one immediately noticed the somewhat more personal service provided by the staff for the Design Hotel where there was a separate reception desk. Our room was in the same building as reception (the Spa Hotel rooms were in different buildings) and also in the building was the main restaurant, an 'up-market' restaurant (Kekale) and a pizza restaurant. We ate in all 3 restaurants. The main restaurant was self-service, the Kekale was waiter service as was the Pizza restaurant. The latter was excellent for a quick meal, or just used as a bar, with rapid and pleasant service. The Kekale provided a bespoke breakfast service to Design Hotel residents during the winter season (included in the room rate) and a high quality dinner in the evenings - booking was essential for this as the restaurant was apparently well known and popular and open to non-residents. The menu for this was limited but high quality, a briefing on each menu was provided and service and food was definitely 5-star. ||Our room had a balcony, of limited use in the winter and overlooking the car park so not the most impressive. The 'double bed' was in fact two singles joined together but comfortable with a sofa (doubled as an additional bed) a table and chair. The bathroom was well appointed with a range of cosmetics etc which were replenished as necessary and the rooms were cleaned daily. ||The Design residentls had a pass for the adjacent Water World which contains an excellent and varied collection of pools, showers, foot baths etc, including outdoors. We tended to go for about one hour slowly perambulating from one pool to another. The hotel is also close to downhill slopes and the cross-country routes are also very close. Whilst there is a room for storage of skiis, it is also used for luggage storage and has no facilites for waxing etc, though these are available in an adjacent building. ||The staff were without exception helpful and personable and all spoke excellent English. I think that the prices was on the high side for our Deluxe Double and next time we would either book a suite at this hotel or the adjacent Levi Spa hotel. We did though thoroughly enjoy...
Read moreIn truth - we found the hotel very disappointing! The location is good, though there are better options right in the village, but it is close and a short walk to everything you need. The room is quite basic and very cold! I was shocked that for the price they charge, there is no underfloor heating, in the bathroom at least. The bathroom was freezing! And not clean! I found hair on the floor and under the toilet, hair that was not mine and definitely not my husband's (as he's bald), and there were some areas in the bathroom floor that you could just see no one ever cleaned there. There is no room to place the shower gel/shampoo, you have to reach the sink for it or to put them on the floor, and there's nowhere to hang your towel, when stepping out of the shower. Also, the shower gel bottles are tiny (we asked for extra in reception). The room is very cold (despite turning the heat thermostat to full), you have to stay under the covers to keep warm, while you are in the room. Not a great feeling, when it's -20c outside. The beds are good quality and comfortable. Pillows were OK too, though personally I prefer them a bit firmer. There is no phone in the room to call reception, so every little thing you need, you have to get dressed and go downstairs. Super annoying and again, outrageous for this price. There were tea bags in the room, but no kettle (they brought one, after we asked in reception). The TV was super old, the channels are only local and in Finnish. You can login to Netflix or other providers, if you have an account, but the remote control barely works and for every action you want, you have to press at least 10 times, as the TV barely reacts to the remote (when we asked for the batteries to be changed we were told 'that's just how it is in all the rooms, sorry about that'). Also, Netflix kept disconnecting and each time we had to login again - not such an easy task with a remote that barely functions. Again, super annoying and ridiculous. The breakfast is below mediocre, we tried it once and it was enough for us to not try again. The dining area is also really cold, you have to sit with your winter coat on, otherwise it's freezing. Ridiculous. One morning when we left the room, we asked housekeeping on our floor for extra towels, as they don't get dry in the freezing bathroom. When we returned, not only did they not leave extra towels, they also took the ones we used and didn't replace them. So again, you have to get dressed and go downstairs to reception, ask for towels and extra towels and then wait in the room until they arrive. I would not recommend this hotel. For us it was a real disappointment and we were just left with a feeling that we threw a lot of money on something that really isn't worth it, as this hotel has no justification for the price they charge. Do yourself a favor and just book someplace else, as Levi is a really lovely place to visit, just a shame our accommodation was so expensive and...
Read moreWe stayed at the Design Hotel Levi for New Year 2024/5. We chose the hotel after extensive research and on the basis that it was the 'best' hotel in Levi. We definitely enjoyed our stay in Levi but the hotel is not 5 star when compared to other hotels around the world that we've stayed in.||Firstly, the good bits...|It's fairly new and modern, and it's in a great location that's only a few mins walk to the centre of town, front ski slopes and bus to the South Slopes. The Kerkale restaurant was lovely - high quality food and great staff. ||Onto the negative points...|Rooms are very small, very little hanging or storage for clothes. Nowhere to dry clothes, which can be tricky in winter. Very much style over substance as the bathroom was effectively a glass box in the corner of the room - inside was wet room and very impractical. The room we had was supposed to be a family room as our 11 year old daughter was with us and the 3rd bed was just a hard sofa with a very thin topper - it was very uncomfortable and unsuitable for a child of any age.||Service at reception was poor. When we first arrived there was confusion about the half board we'd paid for and told to come back later after they had checked it. When we returned the confirmed that they had booked us in for dinner every night at 6pm and that the meal was in the Akhu restaurant, which we were not expecting and very unhappy about - we asked for a later time and a move Kerkale, but told it was fully booked. As it was New Years Eve we had no choice but to go - it turned out that we were in the fine dining restaurant (Kerkale) but it was not full at all - it was half empty at 8.30. So, clearly the reception staff had no clue as to what was happening!||Akhu restaurant serves the other hotel in the complex (Levi Spa) and we walked through it to get to Kerkale. It looked similar to a works canteen and felt soulless and grubby. If you're planning on staying, I'd recommend checking where you will eat.||Service in general was poor and not what you expect for a 5* hotel - small things like only 2 small bottles of water in the room on the first day (even though there was 3 of us) and never replaced. The Classic Pizza restaurant attached to the hotel could not be booked and when we went one evening around 6.30/7pm we were told it was full and we couldn't even wait for a table as they were too busy with takeaway orders in the kitchen. So, whilst the hotel claims it's a restaurant for guests, we were told we couldn't use it.||Levi and the surrounding area is amazing, but this hotel is disappointing and average at best. You can't make up for poor service and average facilities with modern design...
