I stayed 7 nights and I had a generally positive experience at the Meliá Paris La Défense, where I encountered some inconveniences as a tech traveler.
The Meliá Paris La Défense features modern and trendy decor, pleasing dark tones, and stylish furnishings. The clean and spacious room offers a stunning view of the city's skyline, creating a perfect spot for relaxation. From check-in to support, the staff were excellent, courteous, and friendly, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free check-in process. I was even brought delicious treats after I got to my room.
The Meliá Paris La Défense best suits travelers who appreciate modern design and exceptional city views. It's ideal for those who enjoy relaxing in a stylish environment and value courteous and friendly service. While tech travelers might need extra gear, leisure travelers and couples will find the spacious rooms, comfortable amenities, and rooftop bar particularly appealing. Those who appreciate a well-stocked minibar, convenient in-room controls, and a quiet, darkened sleeping environment will enjoy their stay. However, business travelers requiring extensive workspace might need to adjust to the room's layout.
The room does not have USB ports, and there aren't many sockets, so bringing an extension cord and adapters such as USB plugs and sockets might be helpful. It's worth noting that washcloths are not provided, which is typical in Paris. The room is fully carpeted, but I prefer hardwood floors with rugs.
The TV's information menu is not only informative but also easy to navigate, enhancing your stay. However, the in-room dining menu can only be accessed via a QR code, which might be a bit inconvenient. The colored pencils provided in the room are a thoughtful touch, but the absence of a desk might be a downside for those needing to work, and the table is too far away from the outlets.
The mini-fridge is stocked with minibar items, leaving limited space for personal use, but the coffee spot is decently stocked, and you get two courtesy cans of water. The bed has reading lights, and you can control the room temperature and turn off one of the lights right from the bed, which is very convenient. The curtains work well to darken the room, ensuring a good night's sleep.
The shower head and wand are great, but no robes or slippers are available. The rooftop Skyline Bar offers fantastic views both inside and outside, and the elevator ride is enjoyable due to the stunning city views. Overall, Meliá provides a comfortable stay in Paris, with some minor inconveniences. The amazing staff and great views make it a hotel worth considering for your next...
Read morePositives: Location and proximity to metro, lobby area and the Level room on the ground floor. Breakfast has good mixture of hot and cold buffet. Overall the hotel is clean.
Negatives: Staff particularly night staff are unprofessional ,totally unfamiliar with working in a hotel, rushed off their feet and can not follow even simple request and treat guests with contempt. On arrival our room didn’t have pillows! It took 10 requests either in person or on the phone to reception/housekeeping between 3:00 pm to 11:30pm to get 2 pillows!! instead after each request we received all manner of items such as hangers, toilet papers etc but not a single pillow. In addition the rooms looked dated, walls and cupboards are all chipped( see photos) the single chair in the room is dry and grimy with years of dirt and on one occasion the cleaners had left a face towel as a door matt for both of our rooms! (see the photos which shows the towels hanging on towel rail and the towel that was provided as a mat are the same). For a hotel which charges 500 Euros per night this level of service is totally unacceptable. We have been to this hotel in 2015 and it was truly excellent but sadly it has gone downhill and staff don’t care. Our experience certainly wasn’t unique as every time we passed reception there was at least one person complaining about something. Night staff appear never to have worked in a hotel, they are rude and can not understand basic orders. If you have any request put it through day staff. Finally the bar ( on grand floor) staff were slow. we asked for a well done burger and received a totally raw burger. Cutlery arrived around 10 minutes after food and by which time the food was freezing and the wait was so long that on a number of occasion we had to go and get cutlery and other items ourselves from the bar. Cards were not working properly and we had to regularly ask reception to reactivate our cards.
The TV in our room was broken and wasn’t working and that had to be replaced too. There were too many problems on the first day of arrival that it cast shadow on our entire stay. The TV is not smart so we couldn’t connect to apps like Netflix. This is so important specially if you have children and if you like to watch your own programs on apps like BBC or Apple TV.
After such appalling service at such a ridiculous price we WILL NEVER RETURN to this hotel and will strongly advise everyone to avoid it and not waste their hard earned money...
Read moreFirst: The service staff and personnel definitely deserve 5 stars. Everyone is friendly, supportive, and willing to help. That was super nice. The hotel in general is nice. Relatively new and very well located to visit Paris (You only need 10 to 15 minutes to get into the center, depending on where you would like to go.). There a is little artificial lake in front of the hotel where you can sit and enjoy a bottle of wine in the evening. The breakfast buffet also offers a good selection. And: You have a super good and impressive view over the city on the 19th floor! Get there for a drink! 😊
Why only 3 stars instead of 5? Whereas the hotel itself is very nice as mentioned above, there are a few points which made the stay less nice.
The air condition: You cannot change the temperature in the room. Our room was way to warm (between 24 and 25 degrees). This is the main reason for the 3-star evaluation. If you cannot sleep well at a hotel, it impacts massively the quality of the hotel as this is usually the reason why you get there. We asked twice to decrease the temperature, but nothing changed. The hotel offered us a different room (which was nice). Unfortunately, there was the same problem: Too warm and no change even though the aircon was running. Which was the reason why we didn’t changed room in the end. However, we appreciated this offer by the hotel.
The coffee machine at the breakfast area: There are two coffee machines which seems to cause some frustrations for the guest as they do not work properly. Particularly the one in the corner was the reasons for long lines in front of the machine. This should be improved from my point of view.
Beside these points: It should be possible to check-out the night before departure. This was not possible for some reasons. Only a minor thing, but if you need to leave super early next morning, you must plan for unnecessary more time. From my experience of 14 years of business travelling, checking out the night before and just drop the card next morning is a standard procedure.
Last point: Our room / access card needed to be renewed nearly every day. I don’t know why. It is also a minor thing but became super annoying after some days.
If hotels improve the issues with the air condition and exchanges the coffee machine, it would really add value for...
