Hôtel de France Maguy — Hotel in Marseille

Stayed at this hotel for 5 nights recently. We had two self catering rooms. 1980’s vibe with some of the decor and one of our rooms had the dreaded shower in the bedroom format which seems to be very popular in France. Noise of the cicadas whilst sitting on the balcony was very loud but its the authentic sound of the south of France! All part of the ambience! Both rooms had separate toilets which were placed in a tiny square room with no washbasin. Again, this bathroom format is quite usual in France but I find it very unhygienic. Very comfortable bed, small modern kitchenette, excellent daily cleaning throughout our stay. The staff were all lovely and very friendly. Check in staff were great, a nice welcome. The car park is very small and tight but it wasn’t a problem for us. There are two key selling points to this hotel - its location - a short downhill walk to the centre of Cassis, the only real steep part is the final few metres up to the hotel entrance. The second is the fabulous pool area, so clean and relaxing. Pool was a lovely temperature, also has a hot tub/jacuzzi. This hotel is an absolute disgrace. We booked it via booking . com for three nights and over two months in advance. We had a six hour drive down to Cassis and 2 hours before we arrive the hotel cancelled our booking! The excuse given was that our credit card was declined. This was false and supported by booking . com who attempted to resolve the issue but were treated appallingly by the hotel. The hotel refused to honour the reservation and re-sold the room! We were left trying to find alternative accomodation. Hotels on the coast in August are usually 100% occupied! After trying everwhere in Cassis, we ended up staying 30 minutes inland. Nous ne comprenons pas les commentaires désagréables laissés sur cet hôtel, ils ne sont absolument pas justifiés et totalement infondés. C’est avec un immense plaisir que nous sommes revenus pour la quatrième fois dans cet hôtel, et encore une fois nous avons été comblés ! Nous avons eu la chance de séjourner 9 nuits : comme les années précédentes, tout était parfait (la propreté des chambres, la décoration personnalisée de chaque chambre avec tellement de goût et d’originalité). On se sent plus dans une chambre d’hôte que dans un hôtel lambda. Tout est fait pour que l’on se sente comme chez des amis. On ne peut que recommander cet hôtel idéalement situé dans CASSIS, avec un parking, à 5 mn de la plage et du port, suffisamment en retrait pour passer des nuits calmes et réparatrices. Sans oublier les copieux petits-déjeuners servis dans la bonne humeur. Sabrina et Franck, les propriétaires sont adorables, tellement dévoués et toujours aux petits soins pour que tout se passe pour le mieux. Ne changez rien, tout est parfait !
