update to existing review - you can read below why it was 1-star before my stay even started
UPDATED REVIEW:
Sadly, overall still a 1-star experience as a result of high expectations and some comedically bad experiences during our stay.
The GOOD: very spacious rooms, somewhat dated but great footprint quiet neighbourhood, that is close enough to things (though not much around the hotel itself) staff is super wonderful, all very nice and try their best
The BAD: if you like super boutique and small hotels you’ll like this one (the lobby is maybe 10x10ft and there’s no bar) but otherwise it’s super, super small there are no amenities, including fitness. I read on the site that they have an arrangement with a nearby gym. It’s a hotel down the street and it’s €95 PER HOUR! And there are times you can’t go. They offered to deliver weights to my room (??) but when I asked they said someone else in the hotel was using them if you opted for breakfast included, it’s in the adjacent restaurant, but it’s not a full breakfast. Want scrambled eggs? Cool. Want an omelette - pay extra. A lot extra. wifi didn’t work for extended stretches
Basically, for what you’re paying there are better options.
I do feel bad because the staff is so nice. But they really don’t have much to work with.
PRE-STAY REVIEW: Caveat: this review is not about a stay at the hotel itself, rather its management.
I planned a three week, multi city vacation with my wife and two small children.
I booked a 3 night stay at this hotel for the tail end of the trip through Expedia.
48 hours later we had to make an itinerary change for our vacation to accommodate a once in a lifetime opportunity for our kids. This meant we would need to cancel our stay.
Admittedly, I knowingly opted for the non-refundable rate but was hoping given the booking was fresh, and the stay was more than a few weeks away, the hotel would cut me some slack and refund.
Expedia would have permitted this as well provided the hotel agreed.
I spoke to the hotel, explained to them that we would be unable to be in Paris during the booking (again, to afford our children at a once in a lifetime experience in another city, only available during the same time).
The hotel said “Too bad, if you booked the other rate or booked with us directly we could refund, but not this rate. Policy is policy.”
Two weeks away and they still refused to make an exception for something they routinely do...
Read moreI am luxury traveler and try to go to five stars hotels who gain five out of five in TripAdvisor. This time I choose this hotel as I have heard a lot about it. I start from the first,as we arrived to hotel was around 2:30 PM ,we asked about s.th to eat in our suite, surprisingly there were no snacks or food available except club sandwich,so we ordered it since we were so hungry. The sandwiches were prepared after45 minutes but the waiter fell down one if the sandwiches before entering the room, she apologized and told us she will bring the new sandwich but guess what?she brought the one that fell down on the floor. I found the carpet pile on the sandwiches☹. I complain about this to one of the staff ,but nothing happened except an apology and some excuses. Next morning we went for breakfast and the menu was as simple and limited as possible Surprisingly you should pay extra for omelet. I asked for pancake for my son and sadly the chef does not know how to bake a pancake. They brought s.th weird that was no similar to pancake.it was really sad that a five stars hotel can not serve a pancake. These things was really disaster in a five stars hotel. Sadly, whenever I called the reception there were no one to.answer the phone. In every five time we went out of hotel or come inside the hotel there was no one who we can ask our questions ,or tell the problems that we have. No concierge,no coffee shop, no room service. Ignoring all the faults, the staffs does not care about hygiene and health of the guest in no aspects. It was the only holiday that I was really ashamed of my family and Splendide spoiled my vacation in Paris. I will never forgive them. Splendide is not hotel in my idea ,it is just like a lodging-house.it does not have the basic facilities of a hotel. Oh I forget to write about our suite,it was attic with literally nothing. No amenities. They ruined my ,but I will do my best to inform other traveler to...
Read moreI have been fortunate enough to have stayed at a lot of amazing large luxury hotels. However Hotel Splendide Royal is in it's own special category of excellence.|It's a tiny hotel, only 12 rooms - 6 suites and 6 Jr. suites. But it is beautiful, warm, and surpringly roomy.|The reception area is small and unadorned, but the people, the welcome, is the best you'll get anywhere. And attached to the little reception area is a large library/sitting room so you have a comfortable space to enjoy.|Our room was a suite with a balcony and - take my breath away - stunning view of the Eiffel Tower. WOW!! Anyway, the room had a separate bedroom, coffee/tea bar and a mini fridge, a soft couch and comfortable chairs, a desk, and 1.5 bathrooms. The large bathroom (separate bath tub and shower) had a separate sitting area that's perfect for doing your make up and getting dressed.|It was all so lovely and elegant decorated in calm and muted tones. Every morning and at night we sat on the balcony and either enjoyed a cup of coffee or stared at the Eiffel Tower.|Now, about the breakfast, a definite yes and A+! The breakfast area (entrance is in the reception area) is large with soft padded seats and lots of big windows. I was surprised by it's size and yet it felt all warm and cozy. |The food was delicious!! And, as was true with all the staff, the service was impeccable and everyone so very nice and personable. I laughed when after stuffing myself on eggs, bacon and a variety of fruits and bread, I was offered my choice of chocolate or white loaf cake. I declined both but still loved having that option. |The location is good as it's close to transit stations and an easy walk to sights. It's also close to the President's palace so it's in a...
