Hotel am Markt — Hotel in Baden-Baden

We've found in our travels that what makes a hotel really special isn't the size of the rooms, the meals you're offered, or even the location, but it's the people you interact with. The Hotel Am Markt scores 5 stars for the wonderful family who runs it. Every person we were lucky enough to interact with was fun, friendly, helpful and kind (the little kids were darling). And, in this case, all of the other details were 5 star, too. It's a bit of a thrill ride to get up to the hotel (at one point, we were sure we were driving in a "pedestrian only" zone) but, once at the top of the hill, we were able to park (for a fee) right outside the hotel. Our room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable (with a bedroom and sitting area). At one point, the room got a bit hot, so we asked about a fan and one was delivered to our room immediately. Our room looked directly onto the church, but the bells stop ringing at 10:00 pm and we never had a problem sleeping. Breakfast was great, with homemade cakes that were baked daily. The only negative we can mention is that the hotel is definitely at the top end of town so you will always be making a rather stiff climb back from shops or restaurants. Great place. The front desk staff were wonderful. I absolutely loved the layout of the room. The sitting area had a small wall between it and the bed. There was a nice couch allowing me to stay up and read after my husband went to sleep. Tons of cool lighting throughout allowing for different ambiance. There was plenty of storage places for luggage and small items. The headboard was a great place to store phone and glasses. Breakfast was small but good.

It was in a great location. The only thing I wish could be addressed was having a small refrigerator in the room. They do have a small convenience room with drinks and snacks. We were told we could leave items in that fridge as well. Also, you have to carry the luggage upstairs to get to the tiny elevator, but that is one of the little quirky things that make it so different.

Also, it is a little confusing how to get there due to the tiny roads. However, when we called, we were greeted respectfully, and told how to maneuver the marktplatz in order to get there. It was overall a great place to stay and I will stay again on...
