Ausländer unerwünscht! Foreigners are not welcome here!
My English-speaking folks went here for a drink outside before dinner and the staff was very rude to them before I arrived. They wouldn’t even show them a menu when they asked to see it. When I got there and asked again (I DO speak German), they reluctantly showed us menus. Our host had recommended this place so we decided to try it and figured this one waiter was just having a bad day. Big mistake!
Turns out, every single staff member was totally rude to us. They were slow, impatient with me having to translate for my family, and I even caught them glaring at us several times. My dad is also disabled and deaf, and they were impatient in dealing with him and the time it took for us to communicate with him. I had to ask for silverware, and no one came to check on us or offer more drinks. I flagged them down and asked for a second bottle of water and they brought me a beer instead; when I said I had ordered water, and not a beer, they copped an even bigger attitude and acted like it was my fault. They never did bring more water.
The staff were much more attentive and hospitable to the native Germans in the restaurant. We were definitely not welcome here and they went out of their way to make it obvious. All of this is incredibly ironic, since none of the waitstaff dealing with us were native Germans either. They might have been the second or third generation living there, but they’re not native Germans.
The food was just ok, except for my wife’s burnt hamburger bun, but I didn’t ask them to fix it because I assumed they’d just be more even rude to us.
Do yourself a favor and find a place that actually WANTS your business. This place doesn’t even try to pretend that they do. Zero stars. Avoid...
Read moreCame here for lunch before we leave Baden Baden. We were there around 12:30 and the restaurant was quite occupied.
We were seated quickly and was offered both the a la carte menu and the weekday lunch menu.
We ordered: Veal liver with apple, sauté onions, meat gravy and mashed potato Panfried chicken wrapped in bacon, served with tomato pasta and grated cheese Radler Apple soft drink (it’s like apple juice w/ sparkling water)
The bill came to €29.50, which is very fair/reasonable in the centre of Baden Baden. The main course were generous in portion size, you get a lot of meat for what you pay for (around €10 per main course).
It seems like the lunch menu changes weekly and everything is made fresh and served piping hot. We were very satisfied and would happily...
Read moreHad to wait a solid 20 minutes to get a waiter to attend our table. Quite the disappointing flavours in the beers, wine was stale and appeared to come from a bottle that had been opened a few days before our arrival (but still costed €5,70 per glass). Furthermore, the waiters seemed to be extremely annoyed by our presence and only attended our table once in 1,5(!) hours. We wanted to order more drinks and something to eat, but they simply ignored us. Final amount was € 9,80 and when the waiter sensed that we were not going to tip him, he told us that the minimum amount to pay by card was € 10. I’ve never felt so unwelcome at a place and am extremely sure that I am never going to...
