After a few long days at a conference, we wanted a meal that would help us relax and enjoy something special. Maltes Hidden Kitchen in Baden-Baden was just what we were looking for.
We chose the 5-course tasting menu with wine pairing, and every dish was impressive. The food was beautifully presented without being over the top, and the flavors were well-balanced. Each course was thoughtfully prepared, and the presentation made the meal feel special without being too fancy.
The wine pairings were spot on, complementing the food perfectly. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, ensuring we had everything we needed without hovering. Their service made the experience even more enjoyable.
Overall, Maltes Hidden Kitchen provided a great way to wind down after a busy week. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was just right. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great dining experience in...
Read moreThe restaurant is a great combination of local produce and culinary tradition with interesting touches from the chef and creative presentation. I particularly enjoyed the venison, which was cooked to perfection. The riesling offered by the waiter was also great. The service was hospitable and appeared to adjust the level of formality based on the expectations of the table members. Great experience.
Upd: I came back to the restaurant this summer. The atmosphere feels more professional and less cosy now. The dishes weren’t as good as last time but still a pretty high standard. The timing of service was a bit off, however. We waited almost an hour between the main and the deserts. I like the concept of choosing as many dishes as you want from a tasting menu but I believe that the pace of the dinner has to be adapted accordingly. I understand that pauses are necessary but here they felt unbalanced. Quite a pleasant experience...
Read moreWe've been waiting 5 years to visit here and it was well worth it. It took us so long since you need to book a few weeks in advance for this small coffee shop by day, restaurant by night (hence the Hidden moniker). We were just not organised enough on previous trips to Baden Baden. It's worth splurging on as many courses as you can since each additional course is only 10 euro more on top of a steep starting price for 3 courses - but it's not so expensive as Michelin stars go. Of particular note was the 'cheese' course that was more like a savory dessert, with a nice foam and other texture elements. That dish alone has revolutionised how I think cheese courses should be done.
The multiple amuse bouche, playing with classic flavour combinations, is also worth calling out. 6 courses is really more like 9.
For a Michelin star, it's fairly relaxed and unpretentious, so a great entry point into reality...
