Don't let the name fool you - lassen Sie sich vom Namen nicht täuschen. You don't have to be an art student or fan of art to use the library, although it might be helpful. A Benutzerausweis (user ID) is free and the library is open most days from 9-20 Uhr. It's fairly quiet and the location is nice, tucked away from Potsdamer Platz across from the Berlin Philharmonic and the more serious Staatsbibliothek. I currently am using the library as my quiet dissertation writing workspace, but there are plenty of books and journals to peruse in the Lesesaal. The staff is friendly, there are coffee and snack machines in the lounge, you can lock your things in a locker (although there aren't many and some are broken) or hand your things over to the free coat check (Garderobe). Because it is part of the Kulturforum, you can wander into the Mensa for a proper lunch if you are so inclined. I have yet to do it but it's an option.
