I recently stayed at this hotel for 4 nights, and unfortunately, it was one of the worst hotel experience I've ever had, especially considering it is a 5-star property.
The room was outdated and in need of renovation. The shower water heated only up to 38 degrees, making for an uncomfortable experience. The lighting in the bathroom was so poor that applying makeup was a challenge, and there was no full-length mirror to check my outfit—basic amenities one would expect from a high-end hotel.
The most troubling issue was the noise. The walls and doors between rooms are extremely thin. We could hear our neighbor’s phone conversations between 1-3 a.m., and eventually had to change rooms at 3 a.m. just to get some sleep. Even in the new room, every morning between 5:30-6 a.m., we were woken up by the noise of bottles being moved—an indication of poor soundproofing and likely subpar windows, as we were on the third floor.
Service was inconsistent, with turndown service only offered randomly. On top of that, when we requested help with our four pieces of luggage, we waited over 30 minutes for the bell boy, who arrived without a trolley. Additionally, on multiple occasions, we had to search for staff to help us get a cab. Cleanliness was OK but nothing worth mentioning.
On a positive note, the breakfast selection was decent, though we still had to wait at least 10 minutes for someone to take our order. The night staff gentleman was extremely polite, and the lady at checkout was kind enough to offer me an upgrade for a future stay that I had already booked for later night in the same week (which I had previously booked if not I would have never stayed here again, but I thought let’s give it another chance). However, upon check in later in the week , I had to wait until 2:15 p.m. for a room ; though check-in is at 3 p.m. I had hoped they’d prioritize my room after the issues we encountered, but that wasn’t the case, when I raised it I was reminded that check in is only guaranteed after 3 pm. The room for second stay was renovated and just highlighted how horrible the first room was, the shower water issue ma remained here also ( I did ask at reception and the water supposedly should get up to 40 or 41) which just adds to the poor customer experience at this hotel.I had ordered a cab for 5 am the next day to get to the airport , when I got down there was no taxi cos apparently they don’t make taxi reservations which was not what was communicated to me.
While there were some well-intentioned gestures from the staff, they ultimately failed to address the issues that made my stay so disappointing. For a 5-star establishment, the lack of basic comfort, service, and attention to detail left much to be desired. I won’t be...
Read moreMy husband & I recently stayed at Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski München, and my experience was profoundly disappointing—far from the five-star standards one would expect. We arrived late in the evening and were initially welcomed warmly by the front desk staff. However, our excitement quickly turned to frustration when we discovered that the air conditioning in our room was not working, previously opened/consumed water bottles found on the desk, as well as used items in the bathroom. With no working A/C we found ourselves unable to sleep in the hot and stuffy room. To make matters worse, the bathroom layout was a disaster. The toilet was awkwardly placed in the middle of the room, making half of the counter nearly unusable and raising serious hygiene concerns with towels and robes hanging close enough to touch the toilet. When we reported the A/C issue to the front desk the next morning, we were shocked to find that instead of a genuine effort to resolve our concerns, we were offered a room change—for an additional fee. This dismissive response was frustrating and completely inadequate. The second night was even worse. The room lights flickered, turning on and off unpredictably, the fan turned on/off intermittently and became increasingly loud keeping us awake. With the air conditioning still broken and only a heavy down comforter provided, I was left drenched in sweat, struggling to find a comfortable position. It was utterly miserable. Morning #2 we went to the front desk to again and shared our experience. We met with Melanie, the Guest Services Manager and hoped for a resolution. Instead, after over an hour of discussion, we were told we would need to change rooms later that night and no additional compensation would be offered beyond a complimentary dinner— a dinner we couldn't even use due to prior plans. To add insult to injury, on our departure morning, the shower water suddenly shut off while using it. The continual issues we faced throughout our stay—flickering lights, a nonworking air conditioning unit, and hygiene concerns (used water bottles and bathroom items) made it clear that this hotel was not prepared to deliver the quality and service promised. Additionally, the hotel itself showed significant wear and tear, which is unacceptable for a property claiming to be five-star. It certainly did not resemble any five-star hotel or American Express Fine Hotel and Resort I have ever stayed in. As frequent travelers who have enjoyed stays in various five-star hotels across Europe, we were shocked by the neglect and dismissiveness we experienced here. Given the relentless issues, unacceptable experience and the lack of resolution, I would heavily caution others against staying...
Read moreA legendary hotel with an outstanding breakfast – but some service aspects need improvement
We recently stayed at Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munich and were initially impressed by the hotel’s beauty and historical charm. The lobby is truly magnificent, and the location on Maximilianstraße is absolutely unbeatable.
Breakfast was a highlight – refined, elegant, and exceptionally well-served. The presence of champagne and red caviar made it feel truly special, and the breakfast staff were professional and attentive.
Unfortunately, our overall impression was significantly affected by the experience we had at the bar in the evening. There were several service issues that felt far below the five-star standard: No change returned – When we paid our bill, the waiter did not bring back any change (approx. 10% of the total). It felt presumptuous, as we believe tips should always be left at the discretion of the guest. Unreasonably long wait for dessert – I ordered a traditional dessert, which took around 40–50 minutes to arrive. After we reminded the staff, they did bring it, but by then we had to decline it. That kind of delay is simply not acceptable in a five-star bar. Unequal attention to guests – We noticed that other tables were served snacks with their drinks (as one would expect in a hotel of this level), but our table was ignored. It created a rather awkward contrast in service.
Another disappointment was related to the room. While the room itself was beautiful and well-appointed, the window overlooked an internal service area. For two nights, we were unable to open the window due to early morning loading/unloading activities, likely involving laundry or deliveries. It completely took away from the charm of experiencing the fresh Munich air in such a prestigious hotel.
We are sharing this feedback in the hope that it helps the hotel improve what is otherwise a beautiful and historic property with great potential. With some adjustments in service consistency and guest awareness, this could easily be a flawless...
