We decided to try this out because it seemed like we’d get a good history lesson out of it. It’s set up as a time-travel trip in the history of Bavaria and Munich. There are 2 separate parts of the program, one is a video covering all the history since of the region since the Ice Age, and the other is a VR ride in a flying machine that visits all the previously viewed historical events.

They do cover a lot of ground as far as the history of Munich and Bavaria is concerned, and the VR experience is interesting and fairly well done (considering it runs on Oculus Quests).

Even then, we came out of it pretty disappointed. The problem is that they try to cover a huge amount of things in a short time, so they can’t really spend enough time talking about each and just throw things at you really fast. Then, during the VR ride, you spend like 30 seconds on each historical event, basically just fly over what’s happening with your pilot saying a phrase or two about it, like he’s assuming you know what he’s talking about. We found it very hard to keep up as we jumped from scene to scene, without much time to be able to retain much of what was shown or getting much detail about what is going on.

I really can’t recommend this, even for the novelty of a VR ride. It came close to being a great ride, if only they had just added some more actual information and spent a little bit more time in each event during the ride, like a tour guide would do.

You are much better off going to the tourist information agency under the Glokenspiel in Mariensplatz and signing up for a walking tour of the city. You’ll learn way, way more for your time and money.
