This was our first meal in Germany after seeing a recommendation on TikTok. The service to begin with was slow it said ‘wait and we will seat you’, so we waited outside the door for around 5/10 minutes. We didn’t have a reservation, but the people behind us did, so they were let in ahead of us, fair enough. A member of staff asked them if me and the person I was with, would like to share? To which they said no, which we understood. We finally got shown to a table and served by a friendly waiter (I can’t remember their name). The service was okay, we weren’t given English menu’s so we had to go over to the desk to collect these ourselves and the waiter was surprised that we collected them as we were waiting. The food tasted lovely, but it wasn’t that hot, we sat beside where they bring the food out and I seen a few dishes being left under the heated lamp waiting to be collected for quite a while at times. We ordered a coke and a Lemonade, I think we got the end of the barrel as our drinks tasted flat which wasn’t great. Our waiter was very friendly which improved our experience. However, I didn’t like that they give you the bill and on the bill, they write tip at the bottom of the bill. You are given a pen to write the amount you would like to tip!.. Each cultures different, however from my culture this is considered very rude and impolite! Studying psychology and human interaction, I understand there is a tactic behind giving the pen and feeling obligated to give a tip as the pen is an unspoken rule, a gesture to comply… Other than this, we enjoyed our time here and the waiter made it a nice experience.

In terms of service and attitude, really match up to Hofbrahaus. They can compete for the worse service ever. I never had such bad dining experience in my life. It’s my first night in Munich and left such a bitter end to the first day of my vacation. Got a seat and tried getting at least 3 different servers attention for more than half an hour. They either ignore us, pretended never see us, or just tell us to wait. It seems that every table in the restaurant is experiencing this. Poor family in front of us, dad finished his chicken dish, before the kid’s fries arrived, thereafter the mum’s item. After an eternity, we finally got our order in, ate our mediocre food. All these while, another family at the next table kept giving us awkward smiles. When this table was leaving, there were some discussions when the server brought them their bills. I thought the bill was probably charged wrongly. Before this group of nice people left, one of them Slide Over into the seat beside me and asked about our dining experience. She told us that we were not the only one, they too experience bad service and long waiting time and gave us recommendations to a better place to dine the next day. Utterly grateful. When it comes to the time to pay, the server brought our bill and asked if we would like to leave a tip. WHATTTT? So that was what the “wrong billing” was about. They are going around the tables asking for tips. No wonder unhappy faces left the restaurant with disbelief! What audacity. Ridiculous place. I would ask you to think twice before visiting. I would do better taking away food from the supermarket.

Relatively good experience at Augustiner am Platzl. It's a lively atmosphere and very busy. Our server was nice; said his English was not good but we found it to be just fine. The potato soup was served quickly and was very hearty. The problem was, our server forgot to put in our dinner order. We watched while everyone around us were served their meals. When waiter came back and asked us what we ordered we knew there was a problem. It was another 45 minutes until our food was delivered and the pretzel I ordered was forgotten (yet it was on the bill and I reminded him to remove it). The food was good. The veal meatballs were delicious. My husband had the Zwiebelrostbraten with crispy onions and spätzle. Most definitely delicious and the meat was fork tender. I hate to be a suspicious person but we got the feeling that they are more attentive to the German crowd and less so to tourists. Overall we didn't have a terrible experience but, when we return to Munich we will not dine here again.

My visit to this restaurant took place in November 2022. Not only was it a brief respite from the chill outside, it was also a lovely place for a meal and a beer. I came during the start of the Christmas markets, so there was some beautiful Christmas decor inside the restaurant and there was also live music going on. It felt very much like a Christmas village and I was all for it. The restaurant itself was really busy. But I got seating upstairs right away. I had the Kasespatzle (forgive me for not including German punctuation) and the apple strudel. What a good place to sample some genuine German cuisine. I approve of the food here. The only gripe I had was the service. It took quite some time to get the attention of the waiter for my check. Service wasn't very attentive but as it was very busy, I try and hold that into account. Overall, I was happy to come here and if I find myself in Munich again, I would love to come back here and sample more of the menu.

Go early to avoid the crowd or get a reservation as many will overflow from the beer hall opposite. Managed to squeeze 3 of us on the bar before moving over to a table. The 2nd floor is much better for a sit down dinner than the livelier 1st floor so choose accordingly (based on availability). Service was alright given the dinner crowd, our wait staff tried his best with some light hearted jokes and antics. The food was good albeit slightly on the saltier side (probably more typical for Germanic/Teutonic cuisines). The schweinhaxe's skin was crispy and tender and moist on the inside. The roast pork was equally good. The currywurst went well with the fries. Do try the 1/2 chicken as that was extremely flavourful and not overly dry compared to many other chicken roasts. The sauerkraut was alot milder than the usual, resembling coleslaw more than the typical styles.
