Over a time of over 30 years of more or less professional travels, I have seen a lot of "high up the scale" hotels and restaurants in many countries, including such - at certain times - horribly expensive places like London and Zurich, a given time even above Tokyo, thus the really most expensive place. Switzerland ! Nicely enough, thanks, Theresa (and now Boris !), the British Pound went down. SOFITEL is the most up insignia of the respective hotel chain. Really five star, and expensive. The food at the Brasserie is really good, including, in fact a very difficult dish, Boeuf Bourguignon. You need very tender meat, and a lot of knowledge how to treat it. No dish for beginners ! - And, very nice, the service is very discret, " well educated", so to say. And polite !
Why only two stars, bad for such a palace : The first thing is that at least "open wine", means wine per glass, is very expensively (this is a nice, but euphemistic word) priced. 9 € for 0,1 is even for Munich out of range, and is a reason just not to come back. Even and notably in Paris (we go often), the owner would be ashamed !
Secondly : Some guests. It is clear that Munich got a target for guests who may have gone in old times - let's say - to Geneva. If you are around Bayerischer Hof, may be for a drink at "Les Deux", you know what it is about. However : The really high up prices at La Delice are only justified if a certain way of behaviour is respected. This means also other guests. The Management has to make up a decision in what they are interested. There is potential for a very nice Brasserie with sufficently wealthy people from Munich as clientele. But it only works, if the Management is not inclined to eat from two totally different plates (of clients) at the same time. Interesting to see what they do ! Looking at the critics at Google, the likelihood is to go for clients of the Hotel, which means a "support function". This would mean that the "Munich clientele option" is not really in the focus, at least at it seems. So, as a "local client", most likely this will not become your preferred place, even if your are happy with the price of meals and drinks. One occasion lost, as it seems. In Paris they would most likely "walk" otherwise. Economic choice,...
Read morePosting on behalf of my fiancé. “We just ate at the délice restaurant, claiming to be a Michelin star establishment, at the Sofitel in Munich. It was an eye opening experience. Not only was the service subpar, but when my food arrived this evening, there was a bug crawling on my entrecôte steak. When I brought this attention to the wait staff, they immediately removed the plate. They came back with an explanation that this did not come from the kitchen and that they would remake the meal. Having had my appetite ruined by bugs crawling on my food, I politely declined another dish. A manager never came to speak with us, they did not offer any other options but to remake the steak, and seemed to not care about my concern with my meal. To my surprise, they charged me for the entire bill (400 euro), including the steak with a side of insect, and didn’t even apologize for the incident. They also offered us dessert and CHARGED us for it (we thought they were offering it considering the issues with the meal). I would never recommend this establishment to anyone, and let all buyers beware. Also had to pour our own wine. Does not deserve a Michelin star. Utterly...
Read moreWe are staying at this hotel and we were advised to visit this place, all we got was a complete disappointment. The menu is small, the wine list is large, but when we asked the waiter to recommend wine, he didn't know anything about wine and suggested the most expensive options. Initially, the table was set for two people, but there were four of us. The waiter didn't bring us any cutlery. When we placed our order and received it, we were shocked to see that the dishes were served without cutlery, until we pointed out that they were missing, and they were not provided. The dishes were terrible. The tartar was served like a smeared flatbread on a plate without any croutons or bread. The risotto was a separate art form, with an unknown grain instead of rice, and it was undercooked, with a crunchy texture. If you ever visit this place, I will never recommend it to you, as it is a waste of money. The prices are inflated, and the taste is...
