The negatives outweigh the positives.Horrid Experience!
Positives -Near the Acropolis & Monastiraki Flea Market.Hotel Staff gave good directions when requested -The view of the Acropolis is stunning at night! Note: Acropolis can only be seen from the rooftop bar, or partially from the 6th floor -On-call Dr's Assistant was available to administer COVID (PCR) Test. Many hiccups to obtain results before traveling, but with persistence you should get your results just in time
Negatives -Rooms were very small. For reference, you enter the room, take 3 steps,& you are on to your bed.The beds are not the most comfortable,& they are quite noisy even without doing the naughty. The bathrooms are criminally small where one can easily hurt themselves trying to shower. The one I had was so small I had to ask for a room change because of it.The room they moved me to was one with 2 single beds pushed together.Thankfully I did not fall through in the middle of the night -Elevator is miniature & can only hold you & 1 luggage (2 if you really squeeze).During my stay the elevator was not working well;Hotel Staff would go to your floor & request it from the ground floor with you in it.Funnily enough, they were using the service elevator to do this. Why not have Guests use the service elevator until you fix the other? -The rooftop bar leaves a lot to be desired.I tried ordering food before 10pm,but the Waiter asked me to hold for a bit. When he finally came it was after 10pm;he then said "the kitchen is now closed".It’s almost laughable what happened,& unfortunately I had to leave the hotel for food -They use COVID as an excuse for everything: you could not have outside visitors,& I almost felt put out on my last day because they would not allow late check out.My flight was 5pm,so I requested a late check out for 2pm.They told me that because of COVID they need more time to clean the rooms,so,I needed to check out at 11:30am instead. They suggested that I could stay in the rooftop restaurant until my time to leave;clearly for me to spend more money.I opted to go to another hotel because there was no way I could have spent another coin in that establishment Acropolis Select needs to do better.Given the way I was treated, especially at the end of my stay, there is no way that I would return.
Reply to Owner's Response
Appreciate your response, Kitsos. Intention of my initial review was to highlight my personal experience with your establishment & Staff, with the hopes that you & Team do better by your Guests. Since you have unilaterally decided to state my exact whereabouts from 17/11 to 20/11,I’d like to respond accordingly.
Room 606’s bathroom, posted with my initial review, was not only dangerously small but visibly unsanitary. As stated in my 1st review,I requested a room change because I would rather not get injured trying to shower in a bath made for a small child.Would believe you would prefer your Guests not get injured while on your premises; stating that you did not charge me extra for that change is beyond egregious.
Noted concerning the faulty elevator, & your decision taken to address the issue at the time.
Concerning COVID-19 health & safety protocols being used as an excuse several times, I can only speak from what your Staff intimated to me while I was there. At the time I did feel unwelcomed, especially since I checked to see whether I could have booked a room on my departure day & there were several rooms free. We can only agree to disagree on this point.
A few suggestions that you may take or leave: Please honour your Guests’ privacy – Do not believe your Guests would appreciate you publicly disclosing their private whereabouts unless there was a police investigation Update bathtub in Room 606, & any room with similar-sized tub – It is simply too small for adults, & may cause injury Be genuinely accommodating to your Guests – Put yourself in your Guests’ shoes, & ask yourself what you would like for a pleasant...
Read moreUgh. That about sums up our experience. This hotel felt like a tourist trap. I expected budget, as in Holiday Inn or Travelodge budget. Which in North America, means basic amenities, but its still clean. Acropolis select was below the level of a budget hotel. It was old...and not in a good way! Nevermind that the furniture is outdated, its bulky and poorly placed. They don't have luggage stands. It was actually difficult to find a good place to put down 2 large luggages on the floor to open them up and make use of them. There is a mini-bar, which includes not only a poor selection of drinks (who pays for those overpriced items anyway? I always wonder) but also a selection of brown coloured stains. Bottled water is 1.5 euro (just go to the grocery store 2 min walk away and buy it for 0.14euro). The curtains are old and have a feel to them that makes you wonder if they have ever been washed since they were put up 20+ years ago. There is AC/heating, but we found a damp smell would come out it. I couldn't help but picture a mouldy old air filter inside, so we just didn't bother turning it on. The bathrooms are small. The step paddle on our garbage was broken-and no, I do not want to put my hand on a toilet room garbage lid repeatedly to open it. The shower head is above a poorly planned ledge at the top of the tub. Which means, if you turn the shower head on, the water pools on this ledge then onto the floor. The towels are old. The walls are paper thin. You can hear conversations, the TV, the phone ringing, then waiting for someone to pick up their phone and say something in response to their wake up call. you can hear the maids for a good few hours during the day doing their daily cleaning. They left a little vinegar in our kettle-which resulted in our baby having a little vinegar in his boiled water for his formula (we realized this after the fact). I found this hotel to be a disappointment. I realize it is a budget option, but they don't seem to put any money into updating basic necessities in the hotel. Like the garbage pail, the AC/heater, the towels. The noise level really is terrible. The mattresses are old. They are taking your money and not putting it back into updating the hotel. After awhile, we just avoided touching anything. I even wonder if they wash the blankets on top of your sheets. The only good thing I can say about Acropolis Select is that it is in a fantastic location, 5 min walk to Acropolis. The area itself is a wonderful spot to stay in Athens, right near the metro and many restaurants or cafes. Its more of a residential area compared to Monistiraki, which you can walk to in...
Read moreLocation - The location was perfect, there are a number of great restuarants within a 3-5 minute walk, a 10 minute slow walk to the Acropolis entrance and a 15 minute walk to the center of the old town. There is also a bus service within a 3 minute walk that you can use to take you to the beaches. Room - The hotel are currently renovating rooms, so you will either be allocated an old room or a new room. We had an old room, it was still clean, well looked after and maintained. As a guess I would suggest maybe the room is 5-10 years old so still completely acceptable. Breakfast - This was great, a good selection of food, a table was always available and the food was regularly restocked. Roof top bar/Restaurant - The view form here was amazing, the food tasted really great and there is a good selection of drinks. Perhaps a little more expensive than the restaurants around the local area but that's to be expected in a hotel. I still completely recommend it! Staff - The staff make this hotel, everyone was so friendly, helpful and welcoming. From reception to the cleaning staff and the bar staff. The staff are a highlight of the hotel and we would go back again...
