My husband and I had the pleasure of enjoying The Herodion Hotel on our recent trip to Athens. We had never been to the city before and were spending a short time there before departing for a cruise. Our decision to stay here was based on reviews online and we could not be more impressed. My husband and could not stop singing the Herodions praises, I lost count of how many times he would just sit back and say what a great choice the hotel had been and how much he enjoyed everything about it. The location could not have been better. A short walk from the Acropolis, located in a quiet area of a vast city just bordering the historic Plaka neighborhood. Metro was located nearby making access to other districts simple. The hotels rooms were absolutely pristine, with a wonderful shower and comfortable bed. We had the pleasure of booking a room with a view of the Acropolis and enjoyed morning coffees on our balcony. We used the hotels service to book transportation from airport to hotel and arrived before check in but they staff was wonderful. From the moment we arrived and had a member of staff rush down to the street to help with our luggage, to the front desk securing our bags while we took lunch and explored the area prior to check in. We were told we could also utilize the hot tubs (which have fantastic views as well) even before our room was ready if we liked. We had lunch in the conservatory room which was delicious and dinner at the rooftop restaurant which was probably the most delicious food I had on my vacation. When we left the hotel we were able to once again enjoy the ease of having the welcoming staff arrange our transport to the Port. We can not recommend this Hotel more, from cleanliness to hospitality there was no fault to be seen and we plan to stay here on any future stays as well as recommend it to family...
Read moreThis hotel is perfectly located within walking distance of Plaka and the Acropolis and has friendly staff, our driver was great. Unfortunately, I ordered a superior room with a Queen bed and Neighborhood/Terrace view but was offered the opportunity to bid on an "upgraded" superior double Acropolis view. The remodeled wood floor flexed when stepped on, and the twin beds (was expecting a double/full bed and not two separate ones) were very shaky although the mattresses were nice. The worst part of this was the Acropolis view, our room was situated directly across from a schoolyard where we were routinely woken up each morning by screaming children and loudspeakers. I asked if it was possible to move to the original room we ordered (or any other) and to get a refund for the bid, but they informed us it had been sold and nothing would be done about it, so we moved on. The remodel applied soundproof fabric to the room walls but it didn't mitigate this, nor the sounds from people upstairs. Housekeeping left us without towels one night but they promptly brought us some after we requested them, service was good. It was difficult sleeping here, but if you get a room other than the third floor Acropolis view (not a good view, see picture) you will most likely enjoy your time here.
Edit: After reading the hotel response, I need to reiterate that I was not offered a room change and was told that there was none available, and that I would not receive a refund for the bidding. I never requested a King bed as stated, I just asked for the original room back-the one I had received was part of an...
Read moreWe had a mixed experience here when we stayed for three nights. We would not recommend or will we be back. I’ve listed the pros and cons below, you can decide. But you’ve been warned. |Pros: great location to walk to the plaza and acropolis. Not near a metro stop, though. Nice 4th floor view of the acropolis. They have two small hot tubs, but they were always full. So 5 stars for the night view from the lounge chairs, 1 star for the hot tubs, which you will probably not get into. Hotel staff ( except for front desk, see below)breakfast was great. Nice selection, fresh, plenty of seats. ||Cons: horrible front desk staff. We arrived around noon and were told our room wasn’t ready, ok, she would text us. Never did. We then showed back up at check in time and of course, our room was ready. The nice young woman at the counter smiled and then proceeded to give us the worst room in the hotel. Super dark, small with very ugly decor. Nothing to remind us of Athens. She told us this was a very nice room. Yikes!! Don’t have dinner here, the food was all very bland. Bad mistake by us. |So in Conclusion, we tipped the housekeepers, we tipped the front luggage/bell men ( all were excellent). And of course we ignored the front desk. Also, don’t think you can get a better room by asking for one. Our friends staying with us did, and after the front desk assured them that this was a great room, they got the room directly above us. I think they even paid...
