We booked our room months in advance and even communicated with the hotel about our arrival time in Olympia (to which they responded). When we got to the hotel, the owner informed us that there were no rooms available, but he had asked his cousin in the nearby hotel Kronio to keep a room open for us. We went to that hotel but the rooms there were in much worse condition than Pelops and it was not a comperable hotel to the one we booked. The owner didn’t even apologize for overbooking the hotel and forcing us to stay elsewhere. Avoid this hotel! (Meanwhile we stayed at hotel bacchus which is a 10 minute drive, and they were very accommodating of our last minute booking and the staff there was very nice.)
I want to respond to the hotel's response: "Dear Mr Shulman please accept our sincere apologies. We are very sorry. We did overbook. We do regret it, and we are also sorry that you had a hard time finding another hotel that you liked as much as our small family run hotel Pelops.
We did what is required by the Greek law, and provided you a same or higher class hotel (we are both 2 star hotels).
Things like this happen to small hotels occasionally. It is not the first and it will definitely not be the last time a small hotel overbooks BY MISTAKE.
For sure it was not intentional, and for sure we hope you would have been a little bit more understanding...
Enjoy the rest of your travels in Greece.
The Spiliopoulos Family"
First of all, it's good that you're acknowledging the mistake now but when we arrived we were led to believe that the issue was a maintenance issue that prevented us from being able to use the room that was for us. We obviously knew what happened but the man at reception simply lied to us.
Second, I am going to leave my bad review rating because potential travelers should be warned that apparently they book this hotel with the risk of not having a room in the hotel. You admitted it yourself, and promised no sort of corrective actions going forward to ensure that future travelers don't have the same problem. In fact, you basically promised that future travelers are likely to have the...
Read moreExcellent family run hotel with terraces and views from many rooms. Excellent aircon, clean rooms, comfy beds with white cotton sheets, and quality bathroom. Easy walking distance to restaurants, shops and the ancient sites. The Spiliopoulos family is kind, welcoming and runs a tight ship, plus providing breakfast if you want. They offer a free use access to a large pool and bar with lounge chairs up on the hill at a hotel compound overlooking the valley. All day long. We went up there 2x after our day exploring to relax, swim, read. Showers and bathroom by the pool. They also have a book exchange area...
Read moreWe stayed here while we visited Olympia. The owners are so warm and welcoming, and the space we had was perfect for our family of four. The main room had a king bed (very comfortable!), and there was a second room with two single beds. I cannot recommend enough to have breakfast there ~ simply delicious and so very filling! Fresh juice, homemade pastry, amazing yogurt, incredible coffee... it was so peaceful to dine in the lovely space and begin our day. The Spiliopoulos family are truly amazing hosts and made our...
