SHORT VERSION:||This is an incredibly beautiful, large and well-fitted apartment with a stunning view of the harbour. An extremely friendly host, who in my opinion, really represents Chania's charm of the people who live here.||||COME HERE; If you're a couple, family or a group of friends.||DON'T COME HERE; If you're old or looking for the "corporate" kind of hotel look.||||LONGER VERSION:||||LOCATION?||Erietta Suites (or Apartments, Stelios told me he's tried to get Tripadvisor to fix some errors) is situated in the heart of the Chania's harbour. An excellent placement for first time visitors want to experience most of what Chania has to offer. Simply stroll out of the apartment and you have access to many restaurants with the view of the lighthouse. I highly recommend trying out Arismari Cretan Creative Cuisine.||||After restaurants, there are many activities to do such as visit the Lighthouse (Our host told us to go to see the Sunset, it really doesn't disappoint), or go to one of the many boat tours, various shopping areas, museums and sightseeing land marks that are all within walking distance.||||I know what you're thinking, what about the beaches? Most people go for the beaches, and they're right to do so. The beautiful ones are far from Chania Harbour.||Why come to Erietta Suites if you're going for the beaches? The best answer I can give you is because it's all accessible from the port. Rent a car, take bus or talk to your host and he'll suggest the best approach to the beaches. The beaches I recommend, which were suggested by our host Stelios, Balos Beach and Elafonissi Beach. Check out Cretan Daily Cruises to get to Balos. ||||Now, because this apartment is set above a bar there will be problems with light sleepers. You may hear music till 4 in the morning. But this is only if you leave your windows and doors open. The bar I'm talking about, Gallini's, recognized us as neighbors during our stay and treated us with a discount. Go there if you need a drink.||||I've mainly talked about the port, but the close, narrow streets around old town were very safe with a lot of hidden tucked away shops and restaurants. So if you want an adventure, go to one of these places.||||In addition, there were some reports of it being difficult to find. This is true. It is difficult to find if you literally do nothing once you've booked. But, simply email Stelios and he'll get you a taxi driver to pick you up from the airport AND personally escort you to the place.||||||THE PLACE? I stayed at the Room with Sea View||I'll start off with the negatives, two main negative points, that in all honesty didn't really bother me but I know may bother others who may be very picky about these things.||1. Staircase, you're going to have to climb a staircase every time you go in and out of the place. There's no avoiding it. No lift. It keeps you fit.||2. Small Bathroom, despite the gigantic apartment, the toilet was a little small. But I soon forgot about that problem when you realize how much space you're giving for what you're paying.||||I had the Sea View, and it was the greatest feeling to wake up every morning with the view of the harbour coming from these two large windows. ||The place felt very homely and partially antique with the high ceiling. All in all, it gave off a somewhat mixture of authentic Greek housing but with a modern feel.||You get a Kitchen, Living Room, A bedroom downstairs and a bedroom upstairs. I've said this many times, but its a big space meant to house roughly 5-6 people. You get free Wifi and a TV. (WiFi was fast and TV had a lot of channels but we didn't really come on Holiday to watch TV)||You're given a lot of useful things such as bottled water, beach bag, beach towels, towels, free tea, a safety box and so on. ||Air condition is in that room so don't expect it to ever be too hot or cold, it worked fine and wasn't dodgy.||You do get a maid that comes in the morning to replace towels and change linen, you can ask her to come later though if you want a lie in.||||Breakfast comes at a small price given by Porto Del Columbo, their reception acts as Erietta Suite's reception too if you ever need anything.||||HOST?||I feel as though I need to talk about how helpful and friendly Stelios was to us. When you first come in, he'll sit with you and find every way to help you. Stelios will make suggestions of where to go, give you directions and even go out his way to set up things if you ever need to ask. You'll have very easy conversations with him, we learnt a lot about Crete from our host. During our stay, we heard him introduce new people staying at the apartment he'd always be helping them one way or the other.||||With Stelios, it always never felt like business. His assistance and friendliness felt genuine. And I feel that's exactly what you should expect from...
Read moreWe stayed in Erietta Suites in Chania for 3-nights in early June ($223 Can/night). While our 2-bedroom suite suite was technically on the 1st floor, it towered 3 floors above the promenade restaurants and had unobstructed views of the Old Venetian Harbour and its lighthouse. The flip side of the view, though, was the formidable staircase that seems to continue on forever (44 steps) as you climb to the apartment (after a 300-400 m walk along the cobblestone streets to get there). Be prepared, but the effort is worth it.||The apartment was compact, but its design and high ceilings gave an uncramped and comfortable atmosphere. The sitting area, with a desk and chair, sectional sofa and coffee table, was fronted by a small deck with comfortable seating for 3 people. To the side was a small kitchen with stove-top and a good sized fridge (adequate for breakfast preparation, but not dinner), and in the corner an open stairway led to the loft. To the back was the master bedroom, which had a door onto a shared inner courtyard. The second bedroom in the loft was huge, with a small deck with a clothes drying rack over the back courtyard.||The location was perfect for exploring old town, close to everything (except the Archeological Museum which has relocated to a suburb). Our host, Antonis, was great in meeting us at the drop off point and helping us getting the luggage to the apartment. He was always available to help with our questions, and to suggest restaurants and sights. ||The Erietta has an arrangement with the Hotel Porto del Colombo, just behind the apartment, for check-in and breakfasts (€10 pp). Overall, a very special place on the Venetian Harbour at a...
