Chania was the second stop on our Crete adventure, following a stay at an all-inclusive resort in Heraklion. What a contrast—in the best possible way! Porto Del Colombo, nestled in the charming Old Harbor of Chania, offered a more intimate and authentic experience that was truly unforgettable. My friends and I reserved four rooms in total, and I stayed in Room 3, which I found to be absolutely lovely. This boutique hotel blends traditional character with modern comfort. But what truly sets it apart are the two incredible women who manage the front desk (I regret not remembering their names!). Their warmth, attention to detail, and hospitality made us feel more like guests in their personal home than travelers passing through. From the moment we arrived, we felt cared for and welcomed. We were greeted with a handwritten welcome letter, fruity raki served in elegant glasses, and jelly candies—just one of many examples of their charm and thoughtful hospitality. They also helped us arrange dinner reservations at Michael’s, where we enjoyed a perfect sunset over the harbor while dining al fresco. They guided us in choosing which beach to visit and even coordinated a cooking class for our group, which turned out to be one of our favorite experiences. Mornings at Porto Del Colombo were a treat—breakfast began at 8:00 and included a variety of fresh fruits, creamy Greek yogurt, cakes, breads, meats, eggs, and cheeses. For me, part of the joy of traveling is staying in unique and memorable places, and this hotel truly fits that description. My friends and I often laugh when we say, “Next time when we come back…” But with Porto De Colombo and the magical city of Chania, we all mean it. After visiting Heraklion, Chania, Athens, Mykonos, and Santorini, our group unanimously agreed: Chania was a highlight, and Porto De Colombo is where we’d return. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a genuine and heartfelt experience in Crete.

This historic monument perfectly combines historicity with the most modern amenities. We were given the opportunity to stay in it and learn first hand about the whole history of this building over the centuries as well as see the combination of different architectures. Completely renovated and equipped with the most modern facilities (smart tv, usb plugs etc), excellent beds , brand new bathrooms very nicely decorated, but with respect, parallel to the style of the rest of the building. Excellent professionalism, hospitality and courtesy were what won us over as well. Thank you for a wonderful stay, we will definitely be back!

Beautiful old historic building furnished sympathetically, but with modern bathroom and shower. Ideal for the harbour and Old Town. Wonderful, friendly, helpful staff who went above and beyond to make our stay the best it could be. Returning in September. Exceptional.

We've recently returned from a lovely ten-day stay in this charming hotel. |The location is perfect, just two minutes from the harbour front with its bars and restaurants. The hotel is a quaint, quirky building with a long history, but has been tastefully modernised with modern facilities and excellent bathrooms. |There are 10 rooms: one on the first floor, three on the second floor and six on the third floor. Two of these are "maisonettes", one of which was ours (it was all that was available when we booked!). It was basically a small room that's been cleverly adapted by the addition of a staircase and platform for the bed. It was a little dark, but cosy and charming. The bed was super-comfy, and in the living area we had a kettle with tea/coffee supplies. From the bathroom and the bedroom, we had views across rooftops to the harbour.|A sumptuous breakfast was served in beautiful, spacious semi-basement room. Coffee was served to our individual taste, and the buffet in included fresh orange juice, cooked items, fruit, yoghurt, fresh cakes and pastries.|The staff (all female) were friendly and helpful, treating us as if we were friends who had come to stay in their home.|The only negative, for some people, would be the access and the steps. The hotel is in a pedestrianised area with steep steps around it, so you have to walk to and from the nearest taxi point (about 5 minutes). Once inside, there are 63 stairs to the top floor, and no lift, so this hotel is not for those with mobility problems. We are a couple in our 70s and managed just fine; we wouldn't hesitate to come here again if we ever...
