Definitely recommend a visit if you're in Chania. Every dish (including the free bite sized dessert while you wait for your bill) was yummy, interesting, and well balanced.
Portion sizes are massive so bear that in mind when ordering. I eat a lot and I struggled to finish the appetizer and quinoa salad. My partner doesn't eat a lot and she ate half of her pasta & pork main. They could easily do smaller portions and it would still be good value.
Service was pretty good overall. It was late & busy when we arrived, but we were sat within a few minutes. Unfortunately, right under a very loud speaker, and they were happy to find another quieter table for us within a few minutes. Perhaps a little inattentive/slow to notice you're finished, but that's being critical, we weren't waiting ages. I think they have an "experience routine" that they follow, with a gratis mini dessert & rose raki for everyone while you're waiting for the bill. Nice touches but slows things down when you're totally stuffed!
They didn't have many vegetarian/vegan options, it's heavily focused on meat & fish & seafood, so bear in mind if you're that way inclined that you might struggle to find something you can eat. They are able to confirm with the chefs so I was happy to order a salad with "mango cream" which didn't affect my dairy...
Read moreWe never actually managed to sit at our table due to the ridiculous customer experience.
We reserved a table for 3 people. After 15 minutes, a table became available and we asked to sit but were told that it was to be combined with a second table so that a larger group could be seated. Then, after about another 10 minutes, while speaking with the hostess, she told us that “making a reservation for a specific time doesn’t mean that you will actually sit at that time” and when we started getting fed up with her excuses she called some other guy over saying “come and take over, I can’t listen to their complaints anymore”. This is shocking behaviour and should not be inflicted upon any customer. We were spending two days in Chania and wanted to relax and enjoy the city, not get into arguments over what should should have been a straightforward interaction.
After 30 minutes we finally gave up and had a fantastic meal on...
Read moreOrdered drinks and meal of a fine looking restaurant from outside appearances. Unfortunately the waiter spilled beverage over the table and wife’s iPhone. A foreboding of things to come.
Sadly some seafood selections were prepared from frozen, not what a customer would expect from a restaurant 20 steps from the sea. Gnocchi seafood dish was a disappointment. The bisque sauce tasted off with finely minced seafood. It did not seem necessary to chop small shrimp in smaller pieces. Wife’s selection of sea bass was Fried in butter, no seasoning, served over cold couscous.
Maybe a better idea would be to reduce the extensive menu and serve fresh menu selections.
After asking for the bill, waiter still insisted on bringing rose raki and dessert on the house. We declined but he brought it out anyway. We left it untouched.
By far our worst meal in all of Greece. Not a...
