WARNING TOURISTS TRAP! [hidden charges / adding products not ordered / bad cooking] After being "invited" in French by the boss Ali alias Michel, the meal was disastrous. The octopus salad is very average. The plate of chicken gyros is of very poor quality (frozen meat?) and dry, moreover the price is very exorbitant (17€). The worst surprise comes with the bill, the avocado/tomato/garlic butter aperitif that was "offered" is accompanied by bread, which is charged at €5 for two people. The service is not included in the price of the meal (6.20€ in total). We've never seen this kind of practice in 2 weeks in Crete! This detail is shown in small print on the first page after the restaurant description. The final bill increases from 52.5€ to 63.70€. After discussion with the owner, he tells us that it is common practice in Greece, and particularly in the port of Chania to charge for the service separately (which is false of course). He implies that without these fees, customers don't tip or don't order more (perhaps the quality of the food explains this???). I'm surprised to see so many 5 stars glowing comments, if they're not fakes, the only explanation is that customers don't read their bills before paying. In the end, don't bother to go in this restaurant, we've paid less in the little streets away from the port in the evening.

Gallini Family Restaurant in Chania, Crete, felt like our home away from home. From the very first night, we were welcomed with open arms by the incredible family who runs this place, and their kindness made all the difference. There’s a warmth here that goes beyond great service—it’s like dining with old friends who truly care about your experience. The food? Absolutely delicious, and the portions are beyond generous! Every meal was a celebration of authentic Cretan flavors, whether we were enjoying fresh seafood, comforting Greek classics, or a crisp local beer. We loved it so much that we ended up coming back every single night of our stay in Chania—it was just that special. And the location couldn’t be more perfect! Whether you’re looking for a relaxed meal or a spot to soak in the charm of the city, Gallini is exactly where you want to be. If you’re visiting Chania, do yourself a favor and check this place out. Highly, highly recommended!

Early to rise I found myself navigating around the waves crashing the walls of the Venetian port during a storm in Chania Greece and although I passed many shop owners and cafes I was greeted and welcomed first by Mr Gallini and a delightful experience it was. He is an excellent host with pride in every smile, culinary presentation, and ensures you feel as if you are the most important guest in Greece. I’m a cappuccino drinker but tried the Turkish coffee and am now hooked on the strong rich brew without a bitter taste. I thought I may need sugar or cream but happily drank it as is. The extra virgin olive oil provided is made from Greek olives only creating a pure rich taste pairing perfectly with my tomatoes and cucumbers and feta which by the way stood firm and creamy with that subtle nutty taste. The eggs were richer and darker yellow than we can buy in America except from a local farm.

Gallini is a dining oasis that exceeded all expectations. Discovered serendipitously, this restaurant stands out not only for its delectable cuisine but also for its exceptional service and ambiance.

From the moment of arrival, the warmth and respect of the staff create an unparalleled dining experience. They graciously accommodated our preferences, surprising us with a piping hot meat soup as a welcoming gesture. The soup, with its impeccable temperature and rich flavor, set the stage for an extraordinary meal.

While I indulged in a mixed grill, my wife savored the freshest seafood, caught the same day. Every bite was a revelation, showcasing the region's culinary mastery. Even the simplest dishes, like the grilled meats, boasted a tenderness reminiscent of butter.

The generosity and deliciousness extended to the appetizers, which were both plentiful and flavorful. As for the beverages, they were a tale of their own, crafted with care and presented with flair. Whether alcoholic or non-alcoholic, each drink was a delight to the senses.

I also ventured into the realm of shisha, opting for the Love66 flavor, a decision I didn't regret. Its exquisite taste remained unchanged for over three hours, enhancing the already magical atmosphere of the restaurant.

Coincidentally, our visit coincided with the owner's birthday celebration, adding an extra layer of festivity to the already vibrant ambiance. The staff's generosity knew no bounds as they showered us with a variety of desserts, ice cream, and complimentary drinks.

Moreover, the restaurant's prime location by the old harbor, coupled with the enchanting Greek music curated by the staff, elevated the dining experience to new heights. Despite its unassuming exterior, Gallini promises an unforgettable experience that transcends expectations Leaving Gallini, I couldn't help but eagerly anticipate my return to Chania. And upon my next visit, the first item on my agenda will undoubtedly be revisiting this establishment to express my gratitude to the staff and owner for providing an unforgettable culinary journey. Gallini truly epitomizes hospitality and culinary excellence, making it a dining experience...

If I could give this restaurant a 0 I would! We went as a family of 4 and after looking at the menu we decided to give them a try. Living in Greece for 17 years I am very well aware of what I order and what I should be getting for the money you pay. My husband noticed 4 microwaves while going to the restroom with our daughter and he let me know, I should have left them and there but we decided to give them a shot and have an open mind. When our food came out, I ordered a club sandwich and my son ordered the mini cheese pies. The club sandwich was nothing at all what it was suppose to be, my son’s dinner was microwaved and cold in the center. Reason why I know this is because I have been in the restaurant industry all my life. When I asked the waitress to come over and let them know our meal was not good she told me they can’t do anything. We paid for our meal and left. So be aware of this restaurant and don’t give your money to them. This is a tourist trap if I ever...
