We stayed for a night at Nikolaos Pension on our way from Athens to Chrani (south of Kalamata). This pension is, like many others in Nafplio, room-only. It has no restaurant facilities & doesn’t offer any kind of breakfast. We paid €70, which we thought was good value in this popular town. Nafplio old town is quite difficult to navigate by car. You get to Nikolaos Pension by driving right along the promenade as far as you can go, turning left up Vyronos, then right onto V. Spiliadou. That takes you up a hill to a square. The Pension faces the square. There is plenty of parking just outside the Pension, unlike many other hotels & Pensions in Nafplio (I would advise getting there early though, as by 7pm all the spaces were full).||We had a ground floor room, with a terrace onto the square. We were glad it was on the ground floor as there was no lift. The room was tiny - just enough room to get around the bed and it was dimly lit. The bed was big and reasonably comfortable. However the bathroom, tho’ also tiny, was very modern & nice with plenty of hot water.||We were given a key to the room and to the front door as no-one was there overnight. It was easy to walk into town ( turn left as you come out of the hotel, go along the Zygomala, then down Vyronos steps and you are in town - its no good going to Nafplio unless you are mobile - there are stairs & steep...
Read moreI had emailed Dimitri the owner the week before we were due to arrive to say hello and check that our booking of room with a sea view balcony (made over 8 months previously) was still OK for my holiday with my partner for our special first time in the Peloponnese. A prompt and polite email in reply reassured me that we would have a room with a sea view and that we would have a lovely time.||Sadly the reality was far from lovely. The nice young lady at reception had no idea who we were or that we were coming; our arrival was haphazard to say the least. The room, when we had sorted out the confusion, was clean and had a very large fridge and bed which certainly made it homely. The balcony, however, looked directly over a town car park. To see the sea you had to stand at its very end and peer around the edge of the house - past the renovation work on the neighbouring property - which I imagine is being done up to be part of the pension in coming seasons. When all this is done - and when the balconies have a better aspect of more than the car park (and if there are already I cannot imagine why we were in this room) - I might return and award a higher grade. Until then, sadly, this is not a hotel currently to be recommended for its sea views or organisation...
Read moreMy wife & I stayed in the small Nikolaos pension in a very quiet area of Nafplio for two nights 15/7/2016 & 16/7/2016. The Pension is in a square beneath the town walls where there is free public parking. The staff were very friendly & very helpful. The breakfast is individually prepared & in our case was eaten in a seating area in the open air. There are a small number of rooms, possibly 5 or 6 rooms. Our room on the ground floor was very comfortable & quite spacious. The bath room is undoubtedly compact but in no way difficult to use. We would certainly use the...
