Thessaloniki. Been two times in this little gem and more likely I will be back a third time pretty soon. The second time I arrived in this city I looked for a nice hotel, close to the main sights and with a parking nearby since I was arriving by car.
Bellow you can read my review for Mandrino Hotel, which I visited in August 2016.
Access and proximity
Since I arrive by car I can’t tell you how to reach the Hotel from the airport but if you are a traveler coming with your car, the Hotel has a good location on Egnatia 29 | Antigonidon 2, Thessaloniki 546 30, close to the main sights. Also parking space is available near the hotel for a fee(no more than 50-60 meters from the Hotel) so your car is safe there.
The hotel is 1 km away from Aristotelus Square, the main square of Thessaloniki, 2 km away from the White Tower of Thessaloniki or 1.6 km away from Rotonta (roman temple).
The promenade of Thessaloniki is close also (1.5 km) so you can enjoy a glass of drink in the evening and then walk on the quiet streets until you reach home.
Staff
Staff is very OK and friendly. Guided us towards the parking lot, asked us if we need guidance and the city, provided wi fi details and more. Overall we were satisfied with the staff.
Room
The room is small but clean. We sat on a higher floor (8th I think) and even though the Hotel is close to Egnatia Street our room was not noisy. The room had a small balcony and a small shower/bathroom.
The only thing I can complain about the bathroom is the shower size but then again I’m 6.3 and 220 pounds so I can’t really say if it’s me or the shower size.
Breakfast
The breakfast is decent. It’s better than other places and not quite as good as in other hotels. Overall even though it’s not vary varied you can definitely pick something to eat to start the day good.
Verdict
Mandrino Hotel is an OK hotel. I was satisfied with the staff and the room and can’t really complain about the breakfast size or diversity. I wouldn’t skip it from my list the next time I’m visiting...
Read moreThe entire stay was overshadowed by a prior unpleasant experience with customer service. Unfortunately, be warned — this property will seize every opportunity to make money, regardless of the relationship with the guest. Due to a technical issue with Booking.com, my reservation was cancelled. As a result, the hotel kept the payment for the first two nights. No one was interested in helping me resolve the issue, even though I immediately rebooked and paid for the stay in full. The hotel didn’t lose a single cent. There was no way to speak with staff directly — I received only automated replies, followed by some absurd explanations justifying their decision to prioritize a selfish profit of 60 euros over customer satisfaction. As the saying goes: greed often backfires. We had planned to use the hotel’s parking, but instead chose a cheaper lot nearby to avoid giving them any more business. I will personally never stay at this hotel again during future business trips to Thessaloniki. We now prefer Hotel El Greco, just around the corner — similar in price, with a far superior and more varied breakfast. There’s no need to ask anyone for extra bread or ham. I regret having to write this review, but I strongly advise everyone to be cautious — this hotel will not hesitate to profit from even the smallest slip-up on your part. This was my final visit, and I will actively discourage all of my colleagues from booking here...
Read moreI’ve stayed at this hotel for the past 3 years and always had a great experience which explains why I choose it again and again. Until,|on the 2nd day of my stay, early in the morning, a woman knocked and just entered my room while I was asleep. No permission. I was shocked. She did it again on the 3rd day, saying when she just opened the door again- she wanted to “ask a few questions” about my stay. She was from the reception (I think , she never clarified). This is completely inappropriate—such things should be handled by phone or during checkout, not by opening a guest’s door without permission, especially when they could be sleeping (which I was), showering, etc.|She even admitted she didn’t hear anyone inside but opened the door anyway -TWICE. That’s a major violation of privacy. I’m just thankful it was a woman and not a man—but honestly, that shouldn't even be a thought.|The housekeeping staff is always kind and polite. The front desk, could work on being more welcoming. And please train your staff not to open guest rooms uninvited. I’ve loved this hotel for years, but this incident left a...
