Overall we had a lovely holiday in Santorini, however, there were a few things about the hotel that I would like to have known before I booked. |Firstly, the location of the hotel is brilliant, it is right in the middle of the two main streets of the resort of Perissa and is about a 5 minute walk away from the beach. The staff are absolutely lovely and really do make this hotel. They are helpful, friendly and work really hard. The hotel is overall very clean, however there were 2 days where our room was not cleaned, one day when we were given bedding that was heavily stained and one day when we were not given any bedding and had to go and request this from reception. To us, these are basic things that you would expect from any hotel, regardless of their star rating.|The rooms are VERY basic, literally a bed, 2 old bedside tables, a clothes rail and a fridge. There were also only 2 plug sockets in the whole room which is really inconvenient. The bathroom was very small and even more basic than the room - there was no shower holder on the wall, meaning you had to hold the shower hose for the duration of a shower. There was also no shower curtain, meaning that the bathroom became covered in water after using the shower. Again, this was inconvenient and we felt these issues would be easily resolved with a shower holder and curtain being fitted into the room. There is also a constant smell of raw sewage coming from the drains in the bathroom, so we kept the bathroom door closed all the time to try and stop the room from smelling of it too. The safe in the room was not secured to the wall and could easily have been removed from the room if anyone was to break in.. we were also unable to use the safe as the key we were given didn’t work. |The pool is very small considering it is used by the guests staying in both VP Belair and Belair hotel. There are also only 8 sunbeds by the pool, meaning that the majority of guests could not sit by the pool. There is no bar or shop onsite meaning you have to go out for everything, even bottled water. The shop was about a 5 minute walk from the hotel, but considering you cannot drink the tap water, you’d hope that there would be some water for guests who are arriving late in the evening etc, however this wasn’t provided. The WiFi signal is not available in the hotel rooms and is only available by the pool, even then, the signal is intermittent. |This hotel is considerably cheaper than other hotels in the area and you do get what you pay for. Overall we enjoyed the location of this hotel and having places close by to access easily.. it’s ideal if you don’t mind basic accommodation and spending lots of time at the...
Read moreWe booked this hotel as a last minute budget holiday for 2 adults & a 15 year old girl. |The hotel is located 5 minutes from the beachfront in Perissa. |It is a very quirky hotel and in some areas is a bit tired looking which we had seen on other reviews however don’t let this put you off. |The staff were incredibly hard working and very friendly. The rooms were cleaned daily and sheets and towels changed. |The mattresses in our room were new although a little hard for my personal preference. |The WiFi, safe and air conditioning were all provided free of change which was brilliant as I know other hotels charge for this. |There were plenty of sockets in the room for changing devices and a tv although we didn’t turn this on. |There was a large fridge for sandwich supplies and drinks/bottles of water (you cannot drink the water in Santorini) and a kettle although we didn’t use it. |There was 3 mismatched cups & glasses but no utensils/plates/bottle opener but this didn’t bother us as we had taken water bottles and were able to buy wooden knives at the supermarket and brought screw top wine. |Our room didn’t have an airer or washing line, others did, but we used the patio furniture to hang beach towels/swimwear on with no problems. |The bathroom could do with an upgrade or refurbishment especially the floor as it looks worn but it was always clean and didn’t bother us at all. If the hotel/rooms had been upgraded or refurbished I’m sure it would put it well out of our budget as it was an amazing location with lovely staff. |The hotel has a small pool area with sunbeds which looked clean and there was some inflatables you could use. We only went in the pool once and only for an hour later in the day as we preferred being at the beach. |There are plenty of different tavernas at the beach that offer sun beds for free if you buy drinks from them which we did. |The sand is black and gets very hot so you will need some beach shoes to wear to the sea. |The hotel is also very close to the main road where you can catch a bus to explore the island. Alternatively the hotel staff were able to help me book a tour with a local company that incorporated all the sights and a boat tour to the volcano. |We really enjoyed our stay at VP Belair and would love to return one day. |If you are looking for a hotel that provides food, drink and entertainment on site then is is definitely not the place for you. However if you are looking for a cheap friendly quiet hotel close to the beach and tavernas then I would recommend...
