The first restaurant we tried in Santorini was Poseidon and, despite its looks, it didn't disappoint. It's one of a long line of large Greek tavernas along beach road with open fronts and plenty of Greek regalia that makes you question their authenticity. We were given a really warm welcome and offered a choice of seat. During the daytime the restaurant looks out across beach road to the beach, at night the road is pedestrianised and the beach disappears after the sunset. The open front and side windows let the Santorini winds provide what can be quite blustery air conditioning but it definitely gives it that seaside feel. The menu is extensive to say the least, occupying a small book illustrated with pictures of some of the dishes. The waiter took our drinks order, again in a super friendly manner and we were introduced to the cheap wonder that is Greek house wine by the carafe, in this case a local Santo Vineyard white. We shared a starter of fava, olives and fresh crusty bread which was all delicious, although the fava had quite a thin consistency but made a very tasty local alternative to houmous. The beef stamna main course was despatched quickly from the kitchen and was also very good. The beef was tender and the sauce so deserved of the mopping up with the last of the bread that it received. We shared a dessert that was somewhat similar to baclava but with a stranded topping; a Santa Irini bakery product by the look and high standard of it. The bill was very reasonable, possibly one of the cheaper establishments along the beach front and good value by anyone standards, about €50 including...
Read moreSunbeds were fine - not too close to each other. Food was ok - not great, not bad. But considering the other places we have been into (in Perissa), in Poseidon we had the least delicious meals. What really annoyed us was the service. At the beach, we asked for a menu at least 3 times and every time the waiter said that he is busy and he will come in a couple of minutes. Meanwhile, he kept on serving to other customers… Finally, after 1 hour of waiting I asked if there is any problem, he said that he forgot as he was very busy. Maybe, taking one menu with the drinks for the other customers is a very hard job, idk. He actually said that we better ask him (he knows what they have) instead of waiting for the menu. In the end, we received the menu, we ordered two drinks and he said that probably we will wait a lot 😀😂. Then, we decided not to order and we went to the restaurant (they don’t serve you food at the beach). There, the service was fast but the waiter was showing super disrespectful behaviour. He didn’t even say one simple word, not even “hello” to greet us. Just brought menu, took the order and that’s it…. Never again… there are a lot better places than this one...
Read moreOur first time in Sardinia, Perissa and we found a gem of a restaurant right next door to our hitel which we half board. What a varied menu and a ha4d choice. The manager was absolutely lovely with his greeting and personality which always made you feel welcome. Shaking your hand and a lovely smile. The toasted bread was delicious for a starter/appetizer wrapped up in a napkin in a basket to keep it warm. Side plates had a napkin on with a packeted hand wipe and tooth srick. The place was spotless and it was quite obvious how proud he was of his place and cleanliness. Across the road there's another area on the beach which is all set out on a decking area. What was so lovely the waiters after having payed the bill gave us a mini Magnum? ice cream. What a delight this was and so tasty. Service with a smile. A must for anyone...
