Hotel Dos Mundos — Hotel in Panajachel

We stayed here as part of a group and most of us were a little disappointed in this hotel. First, though the positives:|Location is great — so easy to walk to shops and restaurants and not a bad walk to the lake. |Pool area is lovely. |Bathroom was recently redone and looks very nice. ||But, overall, disappointed. There was no counter space in the bathroom to put toiletries and no suitcase stand or anyplace else in the room to put your suitcase. ||As soon as we entered the room, we realized it was stifling hot, with no fan of any kind. Fortunately, we were given a fan after we asked at the front desk. But there wasn’t s good place to put it. Since my traveling companion prefers heat, I had the fan on a small bench I moved between the beds so it directed air right onto me from about three feet away. Others in the group, however, who had several people who needed the fan suffered and were up much of the night because it was so hot. ||I was happy to see there were several English speaking television stations available, but disappointed to realize our television didn’t work. Not only was the channel up/down button broken on the remote (so you had to enter each number) but after 30 seconds or so, the video of the tv stopped working and you could only get the audio. Others in the group didn’t even try their TVs because they needed to unplug it in order to plug in the fan that they obtained after asking for one. ||Although the pool area was nice, there weren’t enough lounge chairs so I couldn’t sit by the pool very often. The water, while shallow, was surprisingly cold. ||We had “free” breakfast included although you had to keep a tiny slip of paper they gave you at check in and they don’t tell you this when you receive it. They take the slip at breakfast and if you are staying more than one night you have to make a trip to the front desk to ask for a new slip for the next breakfast. The free offerings were extremely limited and the offering I got was toast and a small fruit cup. Coffee was included but you had to pay extra for juice. If you wanted a different entree, like pancakes, you had to pay. I didn’t bother with it the second day and just went to...

These pictures show it all! ||||Not only did I get served raw chicken but the 'manager' who saw it all, decided to hide inside, shut the windows and pretend he wasn't there. ||||It was only when the poor young waitress came out to say she was sorry but I had been offered another dish so it was my choice not to take it (at this stage I was gagging into a napkin from what I had already eaten) that my husband got really upset and said we would be leaving unless we heard from the manager. ||||They took off an extra US$7 from our bill and pointed out that they had removed my raw chicken dish from the bill. ||||I really don't know what to say and what was worse, a so called 'manager' behaving in such an embarrassing way and leaving a young waitress to deal with issues well above her pay grade or a restaurant serving raw chicken and their excuse was....||||"Someone else cut it into pieces that were too large , it wasn't the chef's fault and we offered you the dish again 😱😱😱"||||Take your own risk going here.||||Also just a side note they don't have cheddar cheese, it's just squeeze cheese from a bottle despite what the menu says 😂😂 don't take my word for it....go and risk food poisoning and a ruined meal, good luck. Or as they said to us "muy bien y buen provecho"...
