Lodging Santo Domingo — Hotel in Panajachel

The location of this hostel is perfect because it’s a little off the main road but only a 2 minute walk. The owner was very nice and the location was quite beautiful with nice greenery. The common space was nice and comfortable as well. I did not give this 5 stars for the reason that there is no hot water and there were quite a few ants in the room, the owner came in and sprayed everything down and I don’t blame him because it’s basically outside especially if you open the doors for some air but despite seeing how often they cleaned they were still there. A nice little spot tucked away with nice plantings in the courtyard. Not fancy but great for a night if you are passing through panajachel. The room had two single beds and a bathroom. The proprietor was a very friendly fellow. 250 quetzales/night for 2. We had buffet brunch down the street at jardines Del lago. You can get a guest pass to the buffet for 55 quetzales. Delicious coffee, fruits, omelettes made to order and homemade tortillas....

We were robbed by someone while out to dinner. We arrived around 7pm, dropped our belongings off in the room, locked the door, and headed out. We were among one other guest and only one employee. The next morning we realize 1,000 dollars and 2,000 quetzales are missing from his bag and 1,000 quetzales from mine. We called the front desk to ask for help and the man who we suspect abruptly hung up on us. Pretty sad we can't trust this...
