Even though I had plans to stay at this hotel about the time COVID hit, plans changed. In October a friend and I were booked on the Riverside-cruises so traveled early to Budapest to enjoy before boarding ship. There are only 30 rooms so in terms of personal touch, this is so. In the past, the plan was to travel solo so only required one bed. I think the hotel confused an old email for one and had us booked in a super room but without two beds. So check-in did not go smooth and before an argument could ensue, clarified the latest email was for two beds. None the less, the person on duty was extremely understanding and helpful after all. We were able to be moved to a lower level but still with wonderful views of the Danube, the chain bridge and Parliament (which is spectacular viewing after dark). Breakfast was included in rate although I didn't go except for once, my friend enjoyed the buffet immensely. Because the river was low we could not set sail on the date previously set. Thus, we had to ensure one more night; the hotel was very accommodating so did not have to pack and move to another hotel for one night. While waiting for the pick up for transport to meet other cruisers, I asked the man behind the desk if he could ensure the postcards I did not have time to put in mail were mailed. Unfortunately, I do not think this was done as none of the family, including children, friends, etc. received any post card from Budapest. I did attempt to contact hotel to ensure they were mailed. A person who was not at desk that day returned the email indicating they had been mailed. |The hotel is on the Buda side; we enjoyed being in the historical part of Buda. I would not hesitate to book again with the hotel - however if mail is involved wouldn't rely on hotel to mail. The photos are taken...
Read moreStayed 4 nights, late August to early September. Had asked for an upgrade at time of booking and was allocated Room 93 - a corner room with breathtaking views and with a balcony. Given that we were in a bit of a heat wave the opportunity to sit outside with a cool drink was crucial. I had spoken to a guest in the lift and he wished he had requested a higher floor saying his view was somewhat obscured by trees. The room was cleaned every day, the staff pleasant and the continental buffet breakfast was fine. You get offered a choice of eggs on arrival fried, omelette, scrambled etc - surprisingly they did not do poached. Apparently it's one thing us Brits often ask for - I would have been happy to pop in the kitchen and show them how! The location is outstanding on the banks of the Danube literally facing the Hungarian Parliament. Close to pretty much everything including the Chain Bridge and Buda Castle within walking distance. Lots of restaurants nearby especially around the back to suit every taste - reasonable prices too. Loved the public transport - the tram is directly outside - and used the trains, metro and buses. Didn't bother with Hop On Hop Off the local bus routes especially on the Pest side are really scenic - and if you are over 65 all transport is free even for UK visitors - just show your passport. By the way I would not recommend paying for an airport taxi or even the shuttle offered by the hotel. Act like a local - catch the 100Ebus at the airport. It will cost just 22p - yes 22p. Get off the third and last stop "Deak Ferenc Ter" and catch the nearby metro, just two stops to "Batthyany Ter" and then either s short 5 minute walk or quick tram ride...
Read moreI don’t usually write reviews, but Hotel Victoria truly deserves one. From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations.|We stayed in a top-floor room (8th floor), and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT! The panoramic view of the Danube River was absolutely breathtaking — Parliament, the Chain Bridge, and the stunning city skyline all perfectly in sight. Waking up to that view each morning was magical.||This boutique hotel is ideal if you’re after something peaceful and not overcrowded. Even though we were told the hotel was fully booked, it never felt busy. It was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The bed was HUGE and incredibly comfy — one of the best hotel beds I’ve slept in.||The staff were fantastic. Every receptionist we met was friendly, polite, and incredibly helpful — whether it was booking taxis, offering recommendations, or just a warm smile when coming and going. Housekeeping came daily to tidy and clean, and there’s an option to request a bedding change.||Breakfast was pleasant, with a variety of choices and the option to order hot food fresh. While the hotel doesn’t offer lunch or dinner service, this wasn’t an issue for us as we were out exploring most of the day — and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. A little tip: the restaurant right next door was a hidden gem! Delicious food and the homemade lemonade was a must-try.||One small note: bottled water in the room is €3 if you drink it, but we didn’t mind and just appreciated the convenience.||Overall, our stay was exceptional. If you're visiting Budapest and want stunning views, a peaceful atmosphere, and outstanding service, Hotel Victoria is the...
