Background: It was built completed and inaugurated on May 21, 1906 desgined by Alajos Strób. The pedestal of the statue is 540 cm high, the main bronze figure sitting on the horse is 400 cm. The neo-Roman style limestone pedestal which is decorated by lions and columns, was designed by Frigyes Schulek. The reliefs at the bottom of the statue which depict the main events of St Stephen's reign: the coronation, the making of law, the building of a church and the city of Vienna paying homage to the king. The statue is very much impressively and big. It is surrounded by St. Mathias Church and Fisherman's Bastion. Open 24/7 and no entrance ticket It needs to clean the statue.

The statue of Stephen I, also known as King Saint Stephen who was the first King of Hungary from 1000 or 1001, until his death in 1038 riding on a horse is a must see while visiting Budapest. Stephen was the first member of his family to become a devout Christian. He was crowned on 25 December 1000 or 1 January 1001 with a crown sent by Pope Sylvester II. This magnificent statue by the Matthew Church deserves a visit to admire its elaborate details. The view of the City of Budapest and the Danube River from the surrounding of the statue is fantastic.
