The Good: • Comfortable bed • Spacious room • Responsive and helpful staff • Complimentary wine • Nice view of the Chain Bridge
The Not-So-Good: While the hotel offers some good features, I don’t believe it meets the standard of a true five-star property. A five-star hotel should provide a full range of in-room amenities as standard—not just upon request.
Although there is a pillow menu and guests can request a dental or shaving kit, these should be available by default. Basic essentials like these are expected in-room, not something you need to call for. Additionally, the bath towels provided were thin and not of the quality you’d expect at this level.
The bathroom is quite small, and both the bath and shower areas are cramped. The glass panel in the shower is too short, causing water to splash all over the bathroom floor. This becomes especially inconvenient if two people shower in a day. A wet and slippery bathroom simply doesn’t reflect five-star standards.
The full-length mirror is oddly placed on the side of the bed. It would be far more functional near the bathroom or dressing area, so guests can check their appearance while getting ready.
The sink is also very small, and using it results in water splashing onto the floor. While the body wash provided is good, the bath/shower area becomes extremely slippery, which can be a safety issue for guests.
The Leo Rooftop Restaurant: One of the key reasons I booked this hotel was the highly-rated rooftop restaurant. I went up around 3 PM to check it out and, at the entrance, mentioned that I didn’t have a reservation. Without hesitation, the staff member told me they were fully booked. Only when I said I was a hotel guest did his tone change—he radioed his colleague and directed me to the lift.
Once upstairs, the hostess then ledme to the far end of the restaurant—clearly not the side with the famous view that most people come for. There were many empty tables at that time, yet she still led me away from the view. Only when I asked to be seated at a table with a view did she agree.
I ordered the beef sliders and an Aperol Spritz. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing—the sliders were tough and lacked flavor. Considering the price point, I expected a much better dining experience.
I also asked the staff why I was told the restaurant was full when it clearly wasn’t. The explanation given was that the staff member “might not speak English well.” Frankly, that sounds like an excuse. The experience certainly left an impression—and...

Read moreMy wife and I are veteran travellers, we work within the industry and are not easily wowed!
However we have just enjoyed a 4 day stay @ the superb Hotel Clark in Budapest and were completely bowled over.
This modern, perfectly curated hotel sits on the banks of the Danube next to the chain bridge , idyllically sited next to the Funecular railway, with views of the palace above.
The foyer is beautifully styled, comfortable seating, interesting books, quirky modern art meets stone pillars. A Mac for guest use, tucked in the corner. A Perfect spot to enjoy a glass of complementary fizz whilst you check in.
Our 5th floor deluxe room, with its ceiling to (almost) floor windows, afforded the most perfect views of the sunrise across the Danube to the city beyond. Super king bed, exquisitely soft linens, ambient lighting, well stocked honesty bar, comfortable seating, a welcome bottle of wine and pristinely clean. A veritable haven of peace, we were totally oblivious to the presence of our fellow guests.
However what marks the Clark out as truly outstanding, are the staff. From housekeeping to manager, everyone was genuinely delightful. It is implicitly apparent that the guest experience is absolutely paramount. Nothing is too much trouble. The level of unobtrusive attentiveness is second to none. Smiles are warm and genuine, the most minor of issues addressed and corrected immediately. On our first night our room was, for us, overly warm to Sleep comfortably. In line with many new hotels the windows didn’t open, I called reception to se if anything could be done, within moments a member of staff arrived with a handle to unlock our windows. Moving forward, every night thereafter, at turn down, along with the chocolates on our pillow, our window would be opened ready for bedtime. To me this demonstrates fabulous service, perceiving the individual guest need.
We received excellent recommendations for dining, cocktails, attractions and thermal baths.
Customer service is an art. Staying in a hotel is a marriage of: the visuals, the comfort, the location but above all how the experience makes you feel as an individual. The Hotel Clark has totally nailed it; it made us feel like very privileged guests in someone’s beautiful home, it made us feel we mattered and our opinions valued.
Needless to say if you should be planning a visit to Budapest, do check into the Clark…….but be warned you will find it very hard to leave!!!
See you again in Spring. Once again a...
