Overall, the hotel stay was very good. The location was perfect for lots of sightseeing on both the Buda and Pest sides. We enjoyed our breakfasts each morning--the "mixed" fruit juice was especially good. Our room was small and though it had a balcony, the balcony didn't enable you to see anything--just a closer look at the large building across the street. (My travel agent had suggested asking for an upgrade to a "Danube view" when we arrived; the gruff man at the desk said, "I'm sorry, we cannot guarantee it," which didn't make sense to me, but I took it to mean "No.")||We arrived very late at night and the cab driver dropped us off at the top of a ramp which led down to a large freight elevator door--apparently this was one of the hotel's entrances. We banged on the door to no avail, and then I noticed what appeared to be an intercom on the wall to the right. I pressed a button and said "Hello?" and a few seconds later the door opened. Turns out that yes, this was an entrance, but you need your room card to open a small door located within the large garage door. I'm thinking the staff was expecting us which made them open the garage door for us, since we didn't have our room cards yet.||I noticed that the room was stuffy when we first entered. I tried fiddling with the thermostat, but couldn't get it to work. Either it didn't work or I couldn't figure out the logic of the controls. But we didn't spend much time in our room so I didn't pursue it. ||The only real negative for me was the grumpy man who worked behind the desk. He never broke a smile no matter how congenial I tried to be with him. One time I was having trouble with my power converter and came down to get help. He helped me but seemed to roll his eyes and went immediately back to what he was doing without so much as recognition of my existence. The rest of the staff was very nice, friendly and helpful. ||It's a good hotel, but nowhere near four stars. That said, the pros...
Read moreCarlton Hotel Buda Castle - A Location Lover's Dream! My recent stay at the Carlton Hotel Buda Castle in Budapest was largely defined by its absolutely awesome location. For anyone looking to immerse themselves in the historical heart of the city, this hotel is a fantastic choice.Being just minutes away from both the majestic Buda Castle and the picturesque Fisherman’s Bastion was a huge plus. I particularly appreciated the convenience for early risers – those who wish to view the stunning sunrise and enjoy the area before the crowds arrive (potentially with free entrance before official opening hours) will find this hotel incredibly convenient, as it's just a short stroll away.Furthermore, the hotel's location also allows for a pleasant walk to the viewing area across the river from the Parliament building. Seeing the illuminated Parliament at night from the opposite bank was a memorable experience, and it was easily accessible on foot from the hotel. The room itself was cozy and comfortable, providing a welcome retreat after a day of exploring. The bed was comfortable, and the room had everything I needed for a pleasant stay. However, there was one notable downside: the soundproofing could be improved. I occasionally heard noise from neighboring rooms and the hallway, which sometimes disrupted the otherwise peaceful atmosphere.Overall:Despite the minor issue with soundproofing, I would still highly recommend the Carlton Hotel Buda Castle, especially for travelers who prioritize location above all else. Its proximity to key attractions like Buda Castle and Fisherman’s Bastion, along with the easy access to sunrise views and the Parliament panorama, makes it a truly convenient base for exploring the best of Buda. If you're a light sleeper, bringing earplugs might be a good idea, but the unbeatable location truly makes this hotel a strong contender for your...
Read moreDon't ever reserve a room in this hotel with Booking or any similar web site. Why? Because this classist hotel has first class customers and second class ones. The first ones has the right to rest and sleep peacefully; the second ones, don't. The reason why: there are a minus one floor reserved for this customers, just under the kitchen and the restaurant on the ground floor. From six a.m. on, it's imposible to rest and sleep. The noise from the kitchen and the restaurant is unbeareable. The scratchy door of the kitchen never stops sounding as the staff come in and out of the kitchen all the time. A true torture. It's both humilliating and insulting that a four star hotel has six rooms of "second class guests" to torture them preventing from resting and sleeping for six hours (the staff starts working at about 6 a.m. and stop at about twelve, as the breakfast is served from 7 to 11 a.m.). From that time on, the room is a peaceful and quiet place. The rooms are very good. I asked the staff at the reception desk to change my room for a quiet one and they replied that the economic rooms were all in the minus one floor ans it wasn't possible to change to a quiet one. I can't forgive the despicable treatment to some customers, who pay for a room thinking that it's as good as any other in the hotel, and it's not. Nobody wants to be treated like second class people. I will never be back at this hotel, if I ever return to this...
