The best thing in the Old Monarchia is its location. It is quite near the other end of the Vaci Utca, the center street of the Budapest. It is located quite next to the big commercial hall of the city. In this centre of shops you can buy different foodstuffs like meats, fruits etc.||I myself found this place a bit odd to live in. For starters, it is quite difficult to find if you do not know it. The reception is next to the restaurant (The hotel and the restaurant are part of the same business) and you have to descend one level to get there. The reception entrance is NOT on the Vaci Utca but on a side street.||When you stay overnight you get discount on the foods in the restaurant. Did not use that restaurant myself however so do not know the quality there.||The entrance to the rooms is on the Vaci Utca. There is an electric lock on the door and when booking in you get also the code for that door.||The rooms themselves are quite basic. No minibars or such. They are clearly meant just for sleeping. No other extras, not even a "Do not disturb" signs to hang to the door to keep cleaners out. Better take one with you when you come here. Made one myself and managed to keep them out. For some reason the cleaners brought more toilet paper every other day during my stay. Did they really think me that greeedy?||Curiously, there was a bath tub in my room. Used it every day there.||Did not have a safety deposit box in that room. That was quite a big minus for them. Looked for myself such a service at Szefbank quite near. Better not tempt those cleaners too much. Can recommend Szefbank though. Never needed it with other hotels there.||I think the personnel there did not quite graduate in the charm school but never had really trouble with them either. The information might have been better for those staying there.||If you want some extras this hotel is not for you. If you need a place near the centre of the city and do not want to pay the hefty prices of some four or five star hotels then Old Monarchia is quite a good option. After all you can shover and sleep etc there. There was no breakfast included but you can find cafes there outside or (especially if on budget) you can go buy some food in the commercial hall...
Read moreWe came in here to eat the daily menu. Its 1990 HUF + we ordered a Beer 600 HUF. Not at all expensive you would say, well after they rip you off it's gonna be a little bit more expensive. 4 of us were there so we would pay a total of 10 360 HUF. we decided to give 11 000 HUF because the place wasn't a big deal at all, and same goes to the foods. It was decent but not a quality food you would expect in the Vaci Street. The waitress served us our second plate while we were still eating our soups, etc. etc. So we got our check it states 10 400 HUF. We were suprised that they rounded it up but whatever 40 HUF isn't a big deal. We paid with a 20 000 HUF bill, asked for change from 11 000 HUF. The waitress got our cash, our recipe and leaves telling us he will be right back. When he came back he gives a tottally different recipe which includes a service fee(?) not stated anywhere before, and gives change from 12 000 HUF. We couldn't argue because they switched the recipe. this place is a total rip off stay away from here!! Also I hope NAV finds them...
