I recently visited Café Frei and had a mixed experience. The service was exceptional, with the staff being very friendly and accommodating. They made me feel welcome and were attentive throughout my visit. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the cakes. They were absolutely delicious, with a wide variety of flavors to choose from. I highly recommend trying their cakes if you have a sweet tooth. However, I was slightly disappointed with the drinks. While they had a good selection, I found them to be oversweetened and they left an unnatural aftertaste. It would have been better if they had offered a range of sweetness options or allowed customers to customize their drinks to suit their preferences. Overall, Café Frei is a decent place to visit for their friendly service and excellent cakes. However, if you're sensitive to overly sweetened drinks, you might want to consider...

We visited Café Frei (Váci utca 74, Budapest), the first café we stopped by in the city. The staff were very kind, especially one young woman who, besides speaking English, even greeted us in Spanish. As we left, she smiled and said: “Have a good day”.

She was very friendly, with a modern haircut and a constant smile. She patiently explained the different savory pastries. We ordered a Flat White (950 Ft ≈ €2.4), an orange juice Rostos Toma 0.33L (590 Ft ≈ €1.5), and two savory baskets: the Mediterranean (650 Ft ≈ €1.6) and the cheese & ham basket (650 Ft ≈ €1.6).

Prices were quite reasonable and the place was very clean. In Hungary tipping is optional, but we happily left 10% (284 Ft ≈ €0.7) because the service was excellent.

👉 We paid a total of 3,124 Ft (≈ €7.8) by card.

I definitely recommend this café: great service, fair prices, and a very...

This place (and chain) was recommended by several people. We have seen branches around Budapest but never in the timing for coffee until our last trip day. So lucky we managed to get in before heading out or we would have missed a fantastic coffee experience. We love our coffee and personally I am addicted to it (10 times a day seems about right). This is a temple for coffee like no other place. Almost every type, every style and each made with Max attention and love. The atmosphere of this branch was calm and quite. The inside was dark but still inviting. We asked for frappe latte and beduin coffee. The taste and presentation of both were just beautiful. Probably a little too hard to choose from the large catalog but... just gamble as my guess is everything here would be great. Amazing...

If I want to drink a cup of coffee, I go to this place exclusively. This is the BEST coffee in the country. You can chose plenty types of coffees from different countries all around the world. You get your coffee from the best quality of coffee beans with fare trade and very low prices. You can chose from some of teas, smoothies and cakes also of the same quality of course. In summer time they have special natural ice creams too. So, if you have enough time in the city and you want to drink something special from the highest quality straight from homeland of coffees and all of it low prices thanks to totally fare trade, you have to try it. The Cafe Frei is a franchise so you can find it in several places in the city, for example in the malls.
