The room that is closest to the shared bathroom looks directly onto the parking lot, so you need to keep the shade down for privacy. Even with windows closed, you can hear cars coming in and out. This morning a truck pulled in with the driver facing directly in front of my window. Thankfully I had the shade down. So you have to sneak a peak out the window to make sure nobody is walking around outside if you want to put the shade up. |The sink in the bedroom is very convenient. But the only soap available is in a bottle in the shared bathroom. The guest house also only provides 1 towel: a medium sized bath towel. There is a shared hand towel in the shared bathroom. There’s no floor mat when you get out if the shower, so bring slippers. You also need to bring your own hair dryer.|I did not use the kitchen, but did not see any oven or stove or refrigerator at first glance. I did see an electric kettle to heat water. |If walking with heavy luggage from the parking lot, there are stairs going down to the front entrance, and then more stairs going up to the front door. |Anyway, for the price, it’s worth the...
Read moreExcellent location for exploring the city. The room was warm with hot water and one of the two beds was comfortable. Communication with the host was good. However; There were no window coverings on half of the windows which didn't give any privacy at all and we put our own make shift coverings up. The entrance is in an ally walkway facing large industrial bins from the hotel in the main street. My friend witnessed a homeless person looking through them. It felt very unsafe and the lock on the door felt insufficient for it's location. We barricaded ourselves in at night and left lights on when we went out. There were 2 double beds with only 2 pillows. It felt dirty. Glasses hadn't been used and were sitting on shelves dusty, on arrival the toilet had toilet roll in it and the toilet brush was really dirty! I've stayed in better hostels. We were disturbed by the rooms above, no sound...
Read moreKnow that just steps away, on the best street in Reykjavík, you can stay at a real hotel with a reception, a good restaurant, secure locks on doors, booking services for all the tours, and white, clean sheets. And, it’s less expensive! I don’t understand the good reviews about this old, unkempt house in a back alley with steep steps receives. No TV. No amenities. Smells like sewage. The kitchen has only a toaster and water heater; no stove or microwave. The owner is raking in the money and putting nothing back to make guests comfortable.
In addition, if you don’t like strange workers and others suddenly opening the door, go elsewhere! It happened 4 times in my 2 nights there! The woman who owns this can’t be bothered to let you know in advance.
I was so relived to stay at the...
