Small hotel in the center of town walking distance to the harbor and museums.|Our room had a queen size bed and a pullout sofa, great for families. The bed is separated by a wall from the living room with the sofa. Staff made the sofa for us. Each person had his/her own duvet blanket. The view from the room was of a courtyard with grass and flowers, beautiful and bright. There is light out until midnight but there are blackout curtains if you want to sleep earlier.||The hotel has coffee and croissants by the front desk. There are also drinks and snacks for purchase. There is a place next door with breakfast food. There is a supermarket called Krónan 7 minute walk from the hotel. We arrived early and the hotel saved our luggage.||There are ear plugs in the room by the bed. I was worried about noise at night. A couple of windows were open and when I closed them the room was quiet. There is a kitchen counter with a cooling drawer, no freezer or microwave, but there is a stove and kitchen items, and a Nescafé machine. There is a bench and a shelving unit to use for luggage.||I did not care for the bathroom situation. There is a small room with a toilet and a sink, only one person can use the sink. There is a separate room with walk in shower, water temperature kept on changing.||There are walking tours that leave from the courtyard by the hotel. We took a tour with CityWalk and our guide Sarah was entertaining.||When you head to the airport you have the option of taking a public bus to the airport for $20/person, kids 12-17 are half price and under 11 are free. The bus stop is a 15 minute walk from the hotel at a bus terminal. The walk is pleasant along a pond, but the pavement is uneven. The ride takes one hour and 12 minutes. The bus seems to leave once every hour at the 15 after the hour.||We had a pleasant stay and I recommend this hotel especially since it is harder to find hotel rooms that accommodate families where you have room...
Read moreNot sure why people praise this hotels so much, as we had much more comfortable experiance in nearby hotel on our fist visit to beautiful Reykjavik.||To make it short:|- good location, although no parking (as with many other midrange hotels in centre)|- worn down (see picutres) and not properly cleaned (limescale, dust, etc) !|- sofa bed is a bad joke, soft or worn-out so the kid (30kg) could feel the iron structure. Worst sofa bed we had in 10+ years of travelling around the world |- old dish-sponge in kitchen upon check-in?? (I have never seen this in my entire life. It is disgusting and unacceptable for a 4 star hotel)|- smelly hot water in shower! (after travelling iceland for 2 weeks, we understand hot water could come from geothermal energy, but nowhere we had experianced nothing but pristine clean water).|- entrance door to room made as patio door (privacy/ security feeling corresponding) - remember it is not a guesthouse, but a 4* hotel!?|- no slippers |- booked for 3 people, but only 2 sets of towels and 2 bathrobes?|- breakfast - huge disapointment! Priced at 24eur/person, selection is very limited and they expect you to pay extra for an expresso. Let me remind you, this should be a 4 star hotel.||If I add that ladies at reception are totally lacking interest in arriving guests that are trying to figure out where to park to unload the luggage, it is clear that my recommendation is make yourself a favour and pass on this hotel and chose...

The good: great location with easy walking to shops and restaurants, the breakfast was solid and the man that works the breakfast was very welcoming, the family-style rooms that have a kitchen/dining area are very roomy and great for groups. On Halloween they had a nice touch of a variety of candies in the hallway. They also leave a few sweets (likely leftover from breakfast) and coffee in the hall during the day.
The less good: parking can be tough - we only had trouble once but I'm sure during busier times of year it must be a real pain, the woman who checked us in was not particularly welcoming but the subsequent male desk crew were super nice, and the layouts of the rooms are a bit weird. For the latter one of our bedrooms had the shower ensuite (just the shower). That bedroom area had no door so there was some coordinating to use the shower/room to make sure your clothes didn't get wet but didn't have anyone accidentally walking in. The bathroom with the toilet/sink opened into the kitchen area. This was good for night time bathroom access but less good if people are eating and someone has to use the bathroom to do their business! Lastly, there is some massive construction happening behind the hotel which is super loud in the mornings!
Overall, we had a good stay at Kvosin and I'd recommend it to others staying...
