Let's start with the few nice things about the room; the beds were comfy and clean for the most part. Despite seeing multiple bugs on the walls and floors (mostly in the bathroom) the beds and nice weighted blankets were bug free. It was also a very warm room, a little too warm but way better than outside. The hotel is very close to downtown and a short walk.
Everything else was terrible. The whole hotel, including the room, were very dirty. It smelled like sewage as soon as you walked in the back door and walk up stairs to your room (elevator has been out of order for over a year according to other reviews), and once you enter the room the smell really hits you. The bathroom was by far the worst smelling part of the very small room. It didn't help that there was also mold and two very intense defusers in the bathroom as well. The water also smelled like rotten eggs, so we had to buy bottled water to brush our teeth so we wouldn't have to taste bad eggs. Good news (I guess) because we didn't want to smell like rotten eggs, or BO from how sweaty the room made us really covered the smell. Also, our room did come with a tv as advertised, however didn't work after it was plugged into the ceiling. If you have any complaints the reception is never open 🙂
We only stayed for two days, any longer and we would have switched hotels. If you only need a bed that's close to the city center - go for it, if you want to shower or relax then you better find...
Read moreThe old adage you get what you pay for I guess could be applied here. While inexpensive for Reykjavik, the rooms were pretty abysmal. They were pretty unsanitary, especially the bathroom. When we checked in to the room spotted dead fly on top of microwave, some sort of hair or shavings on the bed sheet when we pulled back the covers, some small bug slivering across the bathroom floor. The bathroom was overall pretty disgusting to be perfectly honest. The vent in the bathroom produced what I can only describe as a very loud alarm like sound intermittently throughout the night. I tried covering the vent with towel but that didn't help. We attempted to check out the next morning and store our bags at the designated check out time but the door was locked to get to the front desk with nobody around - even though they claim 24 hour onsite assistance. We went to lunch and tried calling a half hour later but no answer. I did receive a call back eventually and was told it was ok that we'd left our luggage in the room until after we finished lunch and made our way back. Oh and the TV didnt work in our room or in the room one of our other traveling companions had but did in a third room for another couple. All in all the hotel is dirty, not appealing, and I would not recommend unless you are looking to save some money and intend to stay out of the room most...
Read moreThe only thing this hotel has going for it is its location. We booked this hotel online several weeks before our travel date and, although we put in a credit card, the hotel choose not to process a payment until the day of the reservation. That was their policy, which was fine by us. After a difficult day of traveling, my husband and I arrived at the hotel to find the lobby doors locked. We knocked for awhile and no one came. We decided to go eat (with all our luggage) and see if anyone was there when we were done. When we came back, the lobby door off the main street (where the address is) was still locked but we wandered around to the back of the building and found a second entrance that was open. While checking in, the man working let us know that our card was declined. Weird as this wasn't our first time in Iceland and we were using our normal international travel card. We asked him to run it again. He handed it back to us and says it doesn't work. This credit card gives alerts when a declined charge comes through so we could see he wasn't really running it. I asked him to try again and he just said we don't accept your card and walked away. Literally would not help us at all. Wouldn't try another card or offer another solution. Just left us alone in the lobby and went else where. It was the most unprofessional hospitality experience I had...
