Near Hallgrimskirkja, so downtown. Rooms have limited old electrical outlets with power strips. The outlet sparked when I plugged in my phone. The church bells ring every 15 minutes (charming) but stops at 9 pm, so you can sleep. However, our sleep was very poor. The neighbor was blasting loud music (a live band?) until 1:30 am. Finally, we fell asleep only to be awakened by a blaring fire alarm at 3:30 in the morning. All guests evacuated to the outside in the 48 degrees weather with only pajamas on. No fire department came. Only a man appeared running in from the street after 10 minutes. He entered the house and shut the alarm off. We were not told why the alarm went off or that it was safe. No apologies. We did not know who he was, nor did he clarify his identity. We all went in and attempted to sleep again but it was too late. The sky was bright and the guests were awake and restless after this chilling disturbance. Many began showering. Others packed and left, creating more loud noise. The front door is old and heavy and sticks, so guests on the first floor do not sleep with the constant slamming. In the morning, the man who shut off the alarm was at the desk for check out. He offered no refund or discount, only two water bottles and granola bars for the inconvenience of having no sleep. Haha. I declined. Poor awareness of hospitality and customer service. After all, people stay here only to sleep, so actually getting sleep is essential to a business that offers only a bed and nothing else. There is no spa, hot tub, sauna, or breakfast offered here, only noisy rooms with no furniture for suitcases and no outlets for modern electronics....
Read moreWhat a quaint guesthouse. We stayed in room 103 on the first floor with a queen bed, which was very comfortable. The WC was right next to our room. The kitchen was 2 rooms down the hall. In the kitchen, you will find a smoothie assigned to your room every morning. They offer cake as a snack. This guesthouse consists of 3 floors, with the 3rd floor being set up as a game room/observatory room that has 4 windows that open upward. They offer snacks, coffee, and tea on an honor system in this room. Their staff was super helpful. Quick check in very quickly. They held our luggage while we explored the city. My luggage was delayed; they offered to be on the lookout for it and place it in our room while we were on our tour. Our room was very clean. I twisted my ankle on an excursion. We contacted the office in the morning about how to go about getting medical help. Again, they held our luggage while the owner himself gave me a ride to the nearest hospital. This guesthouse is located very close to Bus Stop 8, which is one of the Bus Stops for the Flybus that can bring you from the airport to the hotel. It is also very close to downtown Reykjavik. There you can find many restaurants, bars and shops. Freyja is a guesthouse, not a hotel. You will share a bathroom with other guests on the same floor. The 2nd floor has its own bathroom. We were very contend and happy with our stay at Freyja and when we can return to Reykjavik, Iceland Freyja will be our home...
Read moreAmazing location! Straight outside the church and very close to restaurants and bakeries. The parking was plentiful and easy to find. The guesthouse was spotlessly clean. The kitchen had milk, butter, smoothies, cake, Nespresso coffee, a variety of teas, sugar and honey. The beds were very very comfortable. ||The only drawbacks were we didn’t realise it was a shared bathroom, however in the end it didn’t matter too much. We could use the bathroom freely. It would have been nice to have a hook on the bathroom door to hang towels / clothes on the back. Also, the room was very bare. It had a bed, 2 small bedside tables and a place to hang clothes. It would have been nice to have a dresser or table to place things on.||We stayed there for 4 nights and it was so warm and cosy!! || Also, we got breakfast included. it’s in a cafe a couple of houses down the road and you have 2 options. Option 1: crossaint, Jam and butter with yogurt and granola. Or option 1: toast, Hummous and chutney and chai pudding and granola. Both options you can have self serve filter coffee. This was great for me however, for any fussy eaters or people that are vegan or gluten free this may be tricky. We ended up after the first day going to the bakeries in town for more options! The food itself was a great standard and so delicious, highly recommended if you like...
