Read moreUpdate: I tried to clear up things with Micasa hostel so I DMed them on instagram and offered them to have a call to clear things up. Anand(owner of Micasa) called me, we spoke and he apologized me for the incident and what misunderstanding happened(both at hostel and the comment/reply here). Anand has been helpful in guiding in Pondicherry when i was there.
I understand(after the conversation) that this is a one off incident and assured it won't happen again. Their explanation was reasonable and I believe him. (original comment below) ........................ I came to pondicherry at 6am in morning and I was not allowed to check in until 12pm. I told them I would pay extra but they kept saying it's about the rules not the money. If the beds were occupied, the least I would expect is to be told the beds are occupied and not be told that I was not allowed because of rules.
But in the room i got, most people were working, so haven't got a chance much to speak to anyone or got a feeling like a backpacker hostel community(though i was told, people go to terrace to hangout and chill).
Anyway, ambiance is good, most people seem to have come there to work since they have good wifi. So if you are going there expect that you won't be getting in until 12pm. Not much community to talk since everyone is working.
Good place if you come to pondicherry to work and roam around by your in free time. If it's to meet fellow travelers / have more fun like, choose another hostel.
Also choose lower bunk bed if possible, because their upper beds are to uncomfortably high to get to.
Actually I should give 1 rating for their robotic empathy following rules but giving 2* since their place is good. 3* for clarifying...
Read moreI stayed in Micasa last month while I was visiting pondicherry. I ended up staying there for over 10 days. It was one of the best hostels I've stayed at so far. Prime location and has all basic amenities from comfy beds to a functioning kitchen and laundry services. Clean rooms and washrooms that remained clean even when it was a full house. You can walk to most of the touristy places and cafes from the hostel. Or rent a cycle from the hostel or a scooter. Ask for anything at the reception and they'll help you out. The hostel has a great vibe too. The rooms are done up really well. Lower bunks have curtains and the upper bunks are pretty high guaranteeing ample privacy. All beds had a plug point and a reading lamp. They have a really nice terrace too where you can meet alot of people. Met some really amazing people there. Their hospitality deserves a special mention all together. Special shout out to the hosts and everyone in the housekeeping team. Arun helped me around the hostel while checking in and showed me all the amenities they have. This isn't something that I've seen in many hostels. I managed to fall and injure myself during my trip. Viky went out of his way and stayed with my friends and I throughout the night to help us at the hospital to run around for scans and medicines. They even moved me to a lower bunk once I got back from the hospital and extended my stay. The housekeeping staff helped move all my belongings.(Special thanks to honest and mani). Even the 2 security guards in the ground floor were extremely nice, with their daily cheerful good mornings and descriptive directions on how to get somewhere in pondi. Micasa definitely has my heart and deserves nothing less...
